Posted July 6, 200816 yr comment_252816 It has been quite a while since I took my ventilation system apart, and now I can't remember how the center vent/hose attaches to the back of the vent controls :knockedou ! I know it matches up size wise (see pic below), but I must be missing something that secures it to the back of the control unit! I appreciate the assistance!! July 6, 200816 yr comment_252818 As I recall, the vent just goes over the center vent on the heater core. I don't think it has anything to secure it from the front other than the pressure from the heater control panel.-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28648-240z-center-vent-attachment/#findComment-252818 Share on other sites
July 6, 200816 yr Author comment_252820 Oh, that's right, the light fixture above the vent holds it in place, if I remember correctly. Thanks, Mike! I thouhgt I was missing some parts!! July 6, 200816 yr comment_252827 You ARE missing a piece... the thick foam that cushions the vent area to the duct work.Don't forget that the vent piece also has foam directly behind the vent "tube" bar to seal it top and bottom. You CAN refashion that foam from closed cell foam tape in the proper thickness, or built up, and it will do the job.The original OEM foam was notorious for disintegrating. You'd only notice it as "bits of DUST" blowing out of the center vent. In just a few miles of air flow, it would disappear. If you need pictures, let me know. But as Mike B mentioned, the duct tube just slips onto the heeater housing, and the center vent pushes up against it. The foam just seals it and the metal tangs are to guide it into place. You'll want to put your Heater/Vent lever mechanism in place first though.FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28648-240z-center-vent-attachment/#findComment-252827 Share on other sites
July 7, 200816 yr Author comment_252864 Thanks, Enrique. I have pulled my ventilation system and replaced it with a Hot Rod Air AC system. I may have to modify something to keep the vent in place, after I install the foam around it!
