Posted July 8, 200816 yr comment_253065 I have looked at many advertisements for Zs over the past couple of years and I am frequently seeing it stated that the car comes with leather seats. I personally have not seen one with leather seats from the factory. Is there such a creature? July 8, 200816 yr comment_253066 Only in ebay ads...All S30s came with Vinyl Upholstery. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28685-stock-interior-leather-seats/#findComment-253066 Share on other sites
July 8, 200816 yr comment_253068 These days, with the proliferation of leather seating surfaces in most all cars, there seems to be a whole lot of people who don't know that leather-grained vinyl even exists. "If it looks kinda like leather, it must be leather."I'd rather believe that, than assume that all the ads for S30s with "original leather" were/are written by liars. July 8, 200816 yr comment_253069 I don't think most people on ebay fabricate answers, most tell the truth as they know it. A few get "creative" rather than research, even more strictly assume, and then you are left with those who will do or say anything to seel what ever they have. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28685-stock-interior-leather-seats/#findComment-253069 Share on other sites

July 9, 200816 yr comment_253149 I agree with Arne. I think its mostly because the kids these days are so used to cars having cloth trim, that they cant tell the difference between leather and vinyl. Just ignorance. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28685-stock-interior-leather-seats/#findComment-253149 Share on other sites
July 9, 200816 yr Author comment_253150 Didn't think so, the literature thats kickin around shows a very limited number of options without leather as one of them. These seats look like leather and the car is otherwise, pretty well original gear. They don't have vents but they are a pretty tidy looking job. July 9, 200816 yr comment_253166 Reading through some of the early Datsun literature, service manuals, owners manuals, etc., you will find reference to leather or leatherette upholstery. This is a translation issue and not meant to indicate real cow. The vinyl upholstery is simulated leather. The original designs called for leather but vinyl was used for durability and cost reasons. Datsun (Nissan) made a serious attempt to simulate leather and did a pretty good job of it. That's why there is the confusion and mis-identification. July 9, 200816 yr comment_253167 Keep in mind that on a used car - it is possible to have "leather" set upholstery. A couple of companies used to sell them for the first generation Z's and they may still be available somewhere. So if there is a question - clear it up with the present owner...FWIW:Carl B.
