If it is a 78, it should be a 280Z no???

ah yeah, been corrected on that before. she is officially a 78 fairlady Z. but looks like a 240z, so thats what ill call her. any other number conjures up images of the later heavier models, so i try to remove that cloud and just say 240z or fairlady. but i prefer 240z

I'm sure they are a lot more functional than the american door-rear views.
I don't know about that. I think that non USA cars use them because that what they came with in many of the other countries, but here I think it's mainly done for looks. I'm not even that they are legal in the US, not that that stop people from putting them on their cars. I had them on a 510. My take on them is, basically they are the same size as a door mirror but mounted farther away from the driver which to me seemed less functional. I'm sure you've seen picture of cars with the driver leaning out the window to look in his fender mounted rear view mirror.

My experience with fender mirrors (when I lived in Japan for two years) was that when adjusted properly, they worked much better, as they elimated the blind spots you have with door mirrors, and you did not have to turn your head to look at them. In fact, you would notice any cars coming up beside you with you peripheral vision.

Actually I am surprised the safety nannies never got the US to switch to them. Personally, I am glad because while I think they work much better, I don't like the look at all (no offense to those that do).

yeah, im not mad on the fender mirrors myself, would prefer nice chrome ones by the windows. but im not gonna start rooting with it and patching up holes for something minor like that.

never drove a car with them so am looking forward to the experience,

"keep her away from trees (and leprechauns...)"

them leprechauns are f******s, jump right out in front of you in the middle of the night. thats how i crashed the last car. i didnt have leprechaun insurance so didnt get any money back.
