Posted July 19, 200816 yr comment_253915 Since I could not find a stainless steel exhaust system, I sourced the parts and had a system fabricated for this early '74 260Z. The system under construction is shown in the attached photos. The muffler, resonator and pipes are from Borla. Flanges are from Vibrant. Two rubber hangers are used per hanger rod. The fabricator used by MSA mandrel bent the "S" pipe for me. System diameter is 2.25". The muffler tip will be added after the bumper is installed. The parts can also be obtained in 2.5" diameter. July 19, 200816 yr comment_253916 Looks very nice! What's the product number for the resonator and muffler? Good work! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28775-stainless-steel-exhaust-system/#findComment-253916 Share on other sites
July 19, 200816 yr comment_253935 Looks fantastic! Clean enough to eat from- the whole underside. If I needed a new exhaust this would definitely be the way I went. July 19, 200816 yr Author comment_253946 The attachments show the individula parts and part numbers. The resonator is actually a Borla XR1 bullet muffler. It has the same construction as their complete system resonators, which cannot be purchased separately. A transition obtained from Burns Stainless (part no. RD-225-300-16-304-L) was welded to the outlet side of the XR1 to connect to the exhaust pipe. I believe the 2.25" dia. XR1 is no longer available but the 2.5" dia. can still be purchased.I also tried Borla muffler 40652 but it was a little tight. Muffler 40658 mounts higher and has a little more room around it.If you would like more info, let me know.FixitmanBorla-Muffler40658.pdfBorla-PolishedTip-SingleRoundIntercooled.pdfBorla-Resonator.pdfDatsunZ-BorlaMuffler.pdfDatsunZ-BorlaPipe.pdfHangers-RubberIsolator.pdfVibrant-ExhaustFlanges.pdfVibrant-HangerRods.pdf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28775-stainless-steel-exhaust-system/#findComment-253946 Share on other sites

September 1, 200816 yr Author comment_258868 I haven't heard the system in person yet. But I'm told everytime the mechanics come back from a test drive, they're wearing a big smile. They say the engine has good torque and throttle response. If you are considering a 2 1/2" dia. S.S. system, I have most of the components for sale in the classified section. I can give you the contact info for the company that bend the "S" pipe for me. It's the same fabricator that MSA uses in Anaheim, CA to fab their systems. If you are using a factory exhaust manifold or a MSA header system, they can probably bend all the required pipes from the pipe sections I have for sale. I'll give you a good price on all of these Borla components. September 1, 200816 yr comment_258878 Fixitman,I'm planning on going 2" or 2-1/4" and I have a good custom muffler shop nearby. I really don't need stainless, but it sure is is pretty! I live in the SF Bay area & I don't plan on driving the car when it's wet or raining.I'll PM you regarding the Borla parts as I get closer to completion. That is a very nice looking engine bay as well! Thanks, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28775-stainless-steel-exhaust-system/#findComment-258878 Share on other sites
