bilede Posted July 21, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2008 I need help on which sending unit I need for my 260z. I see 70-73 240z and then the fuel injection style for 280's but what part number do I need for the late style 260z? Is it the same as the 240's? where is the best place to get it?thanks!! sblake01 Posted July 21, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2008 It appears that the late 260 uses a unique sending unit. That makes sense because it would have a 280Z type tank but no fuel injection. 25060-N4500 and 25060-N4501 are the numbers listed for 9/74-11/74 in the microfiche. The first number is still good but the second isn't. That's going to be a tough find. You could always ask one of your 'old datsun mechanic' friends or your dad. Remember, the ones that told you that no 260Z had factory air conditioning?
bilede Posted July 21, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted July 21, 2008 Thanks Stephen, I can find the humor in that but when I spoke with the mechanics about the ac it was several years back. I did speak to my father about the ordering again recently and he still swears that the '75 280's were the first to get factory air but books don't lie and he just may not of ordered any out of habit. Brett Smith owned Smith Mesa Datsun here in Mesa AZ but I thought he owned one in california also. did you work at one of his dealerships?
sblake01 Posted July 21, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 21, 2008 I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist that. Having worked on 74s as well as all of the other years, I've seen the factory system more than once on a 74 both early and late. It is a factory system and it's the same basic system as the 75 and up. Maybe the early 74s were outsourced but there was nothing that would indicate that on the ones I've worked on. Never worked at Smith Mesa Datsun. Not even sure where it is (was). Those were the only matching dealer frames I could find. I did once work at Pomona Valley Datsun but not as an AC tech.
