Direction of Bleeders on BMC, etc

Hey everybody, I want to replace the brake master cylinder in my '74, and as I've said before, I'm still learning what the previous owner has put in it.

On the master cylinder that's in there now, the bleeders are pointing to the right (engine). Unless the photos are mirrored or something, I've noticed that the bleeders are pointing the other way on the masters that I've been looking at getting.

Also, while I'm here, is it safe to assume that a master cylinder that's listed as being for '72-'78 models will match up with a brake booster (8.5") for a '77 ,and, more importantly, that that combo will be all right for my '74? I have stock brakes. So, a 7/8" bore would be all right, I guess? Or should I bump up to 15/16? (I've been having the spongy brake pedal issue for a while now)

Sorry about the many questions! I'm about to need to drive her a bit more than I have been lately, and I obviously want the brakes to be right, above all else.

I don't thnk it makes any difference which side of the MC the bleeders are on. Of course, you should check a diagram of the MC in a FSM to make sure that's a valid statement. I don't have a FSM with me at work.

I'm tearing down the MC from my '72 right now and wondered why the bleeders are directed towards the outside of the engine compartment. I intend to switch these things around when I reassembly the car; assuming that Kroil will free up all the "ferschlugineh" frozen fittings sometime in the next six months or so.

S30s had the bleeders on the fenderwell side, at least 73-78. I'm not sure on the earlier ones. You probably have a ZX master cylinder. 79-81 ZX master cylinders had the bleeders that face the engine but otherwise look pretty much like the S30 master cylinder. 82-83 ZX master cylinders were totally different from either and had a single resivoir feeding the two sections.
