Hey folks,

I know there is allot involved in answering this question but what kind of cost are associated with rebuilding your engine....(240Z)

Just a general idea is all I'm looking for. Also not me doing it but a paid shop or mechanic.

Thanks,

Randy

PS......My engine is fine, I'm just curious.

I know I've posted this here before but I had my engine rebuilt by Jasper engines for right around $2000. This was before I joined this forum and didn't know of any local resources. Their price is still about the same and what you'd be getting is practically a new engine with a 3 year/75000 mile warranty. They handle the shipping details to and from your shop.

If you're more interested in performance then you'd want to consider a Datsun specialty shop like Rebello or Sunbelt but I'm sure their prices vary widely depending on how much you want done.

If you drive the car in, leave it - then expect to drive it out a few weeks later - $3,500.00 would be in the ball park. If you do the removal and re-installation - then the initial setup and tuning - $2,500.00 would be in the ball park. If you do it, you'll wind up replacing all the belts, hoses, most likely adding a new or rebuilt alternator and starter... "while your at it".... Price can go up or down depending on the number of new values you need, the number of new rocker arms, new OEM pistons or not, the use of OEM or non OEM replacement parts etc.

FWIW,

Carl B.

Carl's post made me realize that I didn't include whatever my shop charged to pull the engine and remove various components and then put it all back together. This is what it looked like when it arrived back at the shop:

$1,800 for pulled engine and rebuiled labor.

With ARP con rod and head bolts, Electric water pump, Nismo Head Gasket,

Nismo High Velocity Oil Pump, Nismo Fuel Pump and

Aluminum Radiator and it all adds to about $3,000 give or take.

Forged pistions and custom forged con rods you can

tack on another $2,500 easy all for a '77 L28 4 speed.
