Great new BRE 240Z Poster

I found a picture of another old BRE poster that would be cool to have reproduced. It looks like it is by the same artist, but may have been done earlier, since it only mentions the 1970 National Championship, not the 1970-71 that the other poster does. Now we just need to find someone that actually has one....

Interesting. As you can see, he’s offering our $49 poster for $79.95 If he sells he’ll buy one from us, and probably put the ship to address as the bid winner. Not sanctioned by us but if someone buys a poster from us we can’t keep them from reselling it. And it’s another sale for us, just has a middle person inbetween. I wouldn’t want to stop him. I’ve thought myself that I should put some of our items up on e-bay as it would increase visibility.

Thanks for sending the link. It’s very good for me to know what’s happening out there and I hate to admit I don’t really know how to work with e-bay yet so this will help.

Mike,

To the best of my knowledge, that "poster" does not appear in any of the BRE / Interpart catalogs as the one Peter and Gayle are selling. I think I have all the catalogs however I am aware of other brochures and flyers that I do not own. These picturs may give you an idea of what the colors might be like for the graphic you posted. This was a brochure advertising a performance package that BRE / Interpart marketed for the 510.

Hi Chris, thanks for posting those. I thought the colors would be pretty vivid, given the artist's others works I have seen. I think the two posters (the reproduction they are currently selling and the one I posted a picture of) were not sold through their Interpart catalogs, but were more intended as advertisements for their sponsors and BRE. I think the sponsors probably paid for the posters and gave them away in some fashion. I'll see if I can confirm that with the Brocks. The art work on the posters and the catalogs you posted were all done by George Bartell. You can see his signature on the first page of your catalog. Peter said they were good friends and both went to the Art Center in LA at the same time and then both worked at Shelby together.

I thought so!

Here are three picks of the poster...

The last two I took as a surprise for the stranger asking Mr. Morton for his autograph(sometime after having Mr. Brock sign it)-and then I misplaced his contact info(on a scrap of paper). If I had been able to get that poster signed I would have been thrilled to get a picture of it happening...so I thought I woould do something nice for a fellow Z fan

If any of you recognize him, please pm me his info, I have 8mp versions of those last two shots for him!

Nice work Will! It looks like Peter had already signed it first. That is his signature in the lower right hand corner. Its interesting, it looks like it is almost a poster of a poster. There appears to be an inner edge that looks like it has thumb tacks or something every six inches or so, but then some of the colored stripes (like the black one with the sponsors names) extends beyond this inner boarder. I want one! They were supposed to sign it AFTER we get BRE to make reproductions for us!

Hi Guys:

Many early Posters were produced by Nissan USA for use in show room displays. The Datsun/Nissan Competition Department also had Posters produced for the various classes of racing. If the original artwork was Nissan's - then it is likely that BRE2 would not reproduce it without copyright permissions - and we all know that is all but impossible to work with Nissan.

I have a 1970 BRE C-Production Championship Poster, but Gayle said BRE did not produce it... I did take it out of the showroom...

FWIW,

Carl B.

Well, this thread has taken an interesting turn! Nice work, Will. See how the graphic is folded? I'm betting it's not a poster but a folded brochure. I said earlier that I had all of the BRE / Interpart catalogs but I don't know. What I DO have is:

August 1972

September 1972

January 1973

February 1973

January 1974

The poster you are buying from Peter and Gayle was part # 2852052 - "BRE / Racing Poster, A Pete-Brock-designed, multi-color poster highlighting the 240-Z racing success. Previous posters have become collector's items. Order your large (23"x30") poster now." It cost $1.50

And yes indeed they have become collector items. I paid over 100 times the original cost for mine. I have other posters of the BRE Championship 240-Z as well. One was produced for Road Atlanta in 1971 celebrating the American Road Race of Champions. It is signed by John Morton and I got it from Henry Costanzo in Atlanta. (It's framed, hanging in the house, and way too big to scan) There are about 20 of those floating around. Another is this booklet that I bought at Road Atlanta at the 1971 A.R.R.C. Then I have this original water color (way too large to scan - sorry) that was made into a series of prints. I saw some of the prints for sale at The Walter Mitty a couple of years ago. Probably the previous poster mentioned in the catalog included this poster. I'm not sure who published this.
