Great new BRE 240Z Poster

I'm a huge fan of the BRE racing success with the 240-Z. I was there with a GP Austin Healey and a GP Triumph Spitfire. As much as I enjoy this print, I always chuckle at the thought that the scene never happened. This is what the first two laps looked like. Tullius' TR-6 went South on the third lap and Morton as well as Sharp and the Porsches went by him on the back straight.

Remember at about the same time, Datsun 240-Zs were winning the East African Safari and Monte Carlo. Pretty remarkable for the same chassis to rallye as well as road race. Here is the Nissan produced Monte Carlo poster. And I thought you'ld get a kick out of a 1975 Road America poster.

Along with Chris, I am a big fan, I have purchased Hector Cademartori's original of ZEAL, along with several numbered prints of it as well.

Thanks to Chris I have the Costanza poster from the 1970 ARRC race, that is now signed by Peter Brock, John Morton, Trevor Harris and Floyd Link.

Peter and Gayle have enjoyed the opportunity to relive this great history, and I hope that they can supplement thier income in doing so.

Since there are many of you interested in this stuff, I will be donating a spook that was on my BRE replica, (that was slightly damaged) to the fund for the Datsun Museum. I am collecting all of the signatures of the guys and will be forwarding it to the museum to auction on ebay. It should be available after the middle of October.

Hi Guys:

Many early Posters were produced by Nissan USA for use in show room displays. The Datsun/Nissan Competition Department also had Posters produced for the various classes of racing. If the original artwork was Nissan's - then it is likely that BRE2 would not reproduce it without copyright permissions - and we all know that is all but impossible to work with Nissan.

I have a 1970 BRE C-Production Championship Poster, but Gayle said BRE did not produce it... I did take it out of the showroom...

FWIW,

Carl B.

I think the sponsors probably paid for the posters and gave them away in some fashion. I'll see if I can confirm that with the Brocks.

I heard back from Gayle Brock about this. She said, "The art was commissioned by Peter and they were BRE posters that were given out to dealers and sponsors. The way I tell if something is a Nissan poster or a BRE poster is that the BRE posters are cool (-: and the Nissan posters are in general rather dull. At least that’s my opinion and then when I ask Peter I find I’ve guessed correctly so far."

She said that she does have one of the original 1970 National Championship posters and intends to make a reproduction of it some day, after they sell more of the reproduction 1971 posters they are currently selling.

Its interesting, it looks like it is almost a poster of a poster. There appears to be an inner edge that looks like it has thumb tacks or something every six inches or so, but then some of the colored stripes (like the black one with the sponsors names) extends beyond this inner boarder.

She also said the original 1970 artwork was painted on aluminum, and those are rivets what I was seeing in the poster.

Hi Mike:

Just so there is no misunderstanding. The "70 Poster" that you posted at #38 - is NOT the poster I was talking about in the lines quoted - when I said that Gayle said it was NOT a BRE Generated Poster. The BRE Poster painted on aluminum is a completely different one.

Gayles response to the one I showed her - as below was:

"I've never seen that poster. I showed it to Peter and he of course has. We

don't have one. He said it was a poster Nissan put out."

As you can see - the Nissan Poster from 1970 - looks a lot like the BRE Poster for 70/71.in terms of size/shape and track section..

Personally I like the brighter colors in the Nissan 70 Poster a lot, and I might have it reproduced if I can find a good source around here.

FWIW,

Carl B.

Hi Carl,

No, I wasn't meaning to say that your poster was the same one I had mentioned. I was only trying to clarify who the BRE posters were produced for and how they were distributed. I like your poster too and if you get them reproduced put me down for one.

Mike,

........... This was a brochure advertising a performance package that BRE / Interpart marketed for the 510.

Hi Chris:

Actually - the brochures came from the owner of the 510 presented on E-Bay as a BRE car - but was disputed as being a real BRE car. According to the owner of that car, the Project was not used by Nissan/BRE.

So it was a proposal, for Nissan to market a BRE Decor Package for the 510's though the Dealer network, according to the owner of that car.

FWIW,

Carl B.

I think it is just the first 46 that are signed by both (and possibly one with a higher number :classic:). Hmmm... must be something special about that number 46...

-Mike

Hi Mike:

I meant to follow this up earlier - but I forgot. Anyway, #3, #4 and yes the higher number - #300 arrived here. All signed by Mr. Brock and Mr. Morton.

I'll most likely donate #3 and #4 to the Datsun Heritage Museum, to auction off some time in the future.

Mr. and Mrs. Brock will be doing an Autograph session at the JCCS, with proceeds going to the DHM as well.

FWIW,

Carl B.

I found a picture of another old BRE poster that would be cool to have reproduced. It looks like it is by the same artist, but may have been done earlier, since it only mentions the 1970 National Championship, not the 1970-71 that the other poster does. Now we just need to find someone that actually has one....

-Mike

BRE has just made a reproduction of this 1970 National Championship poster. They also have a limited edition of 46 signed by both Brock and Morton. I have been waiting for a reproduction of this one.

They have also made a reproduction of the one that Carl posted a picture of in post #52 above. It is currently for sale on ebay through a reseller, but should be available on the BRE site soon. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-1st-2nd-3rd-place-at-1970-ARRC-Car-Poster_W0QQitemZ380212733729QQcmdZViewItemQQptZApparel_Merchandise?hash=item588671e721.

BRE also has reproduction 510 and 1969 roadster posters on their site now too.

I too have this poster in my garage along with the Baja 510 one. They are both on foam board and are beat up a little. Hey, who knew? We picked them out of my neighbor's garbage.....
