Fair price for a 4.11:1 R180?

Hi Arne I paid $72 for a KR180 4:11 out of an 86 200 SX at the local p-n-p. I pulled the half-shafts off as they won't fit on our cars and also didn't have to pay for them. I will use my threaded buttons from my stock R180 3:36 gear carrier and put them in the KR180. That way I can use my own half-shaft stubs and half-shafts. This was covered in a differential sticky on hybridz by our own jmortenson.

The only trouble I'm having is trying to obtain a 4:11 speedo cog to fit into our speedo cog holder. The cog from the 200SX was gray and had 21 teeth which is supposed to be for a 4:39. The stamp on the ring gear of the KR180 is 37.9 which is a 4:11. I got a cog drive from a 240 SX (red-20 teeth), but it is electric and the shaft won't work on out speed cog housings. I hope this helps.

Cheers, Mike

Arne, I ordered a 20 tooth ( theoretically for a 4:11) speedo cog (they call it a speedometer pinion) part # 32703-78104 $13.48 from Courtesy Nissan. If you go to their website there is a small link to their Nismo catalog. Now, it's not in my hand yet so I don't know if it really exists...we'll see.

Cheers, Mike

Arne,

I give up. What's a fair price? I was sooo tempted to grab one off ebay back when they were $150 to $300. There was a junk yard that sold a bunch of them in a row. Now that those are gone I find them selling for $400 and up plus shipping. Yikes!!! Come to find out the tranny I had rebuilt was/ is an early 5 speed so I would not have used the 4.11 anyway. Now I need a 3.7 with stubs that snap in and have the 4 bolt 240z flange, and while I'm dreaming I'll just take that in an LSD. (anyone say subaru/ wrong splines darn, anyone say subaru r160/ dust shields darn). Looks like I will be going the Beta motorsports stub mod with a 200sx r180. Hope it comes in an LSD (I don't think so, darn). So have you got a 4.11 to sell or are you looking to buy?

Well, neither one, not immediately. I don't want one for the car I have now, but who knows what the future might bring? I know where I can get my hands on one, and could either keep it for the future, or try to flip it to make a few bucks. Haven't decided which or whether, yet.

How mercenary of you...

Yeah, I suppose so. But if past history is any indication, if I bought it I'd probably never get around to selling it. It'd just sit in my garage waiting, along with the spare Type A 4 speed, entire spare wiring harness, brake drums, halfshafts, etc., etc.

Only 1 Type A, I have 4 on hand right now and esentially 2 Z's in parts minus the tub's. Not to mention 6 new rotors, 4 new drums, 8 halfshafts, etc. :stupid:

Arne, I recently paid $150 for a locked 3.70 for the track. I have found several 4.11's in the $125-$175 range. I would think that would be a good range to think about.

Arne the speedo pinion is on back order. Courtesy says 1 week to 1 month...we'll see.

Cheers' date=' Mike[/quote']

The 86 200sx should carry a R200 3.90 and a 4.11 for the turbo model.

Plus, the red, 19 tooth gear is the correct one for the 4.11.

I picked up a couple of R180 and R200 4.11 rear ends at my local u pull it yard for around $50.00 each. I sold them for over $200.00 each.
