im soooo new right now, like to this forum and my car.

so im a 16 girl and i bought a 75 280z

it cost me a grand.(yes, i bought all on my lonesome, no parental or granparantal help)

so far i put in a new battery and it had a radiator leak and i got that fixed today.

it still has a oil leak tho...

i had some of my buddies from autoshop do a compression check on it and its excellent and it still has most of its emblems and original seats, carpeting, steering wheel, interior and dashboard is in "cracked" conditions and the passenger exterior door handle is busted, so it cant be opened from the outside, only on the inside and the hatch wont open.

being a girl i am sooooooooo taken for granted, especially about my car.

so im so looking forward for any pointers and warnings or things i should watch out for and most definately new friends.

so heres a pic of my baby, he was originally white, but now he is flat black.and thats me acting like a dork on my car also a pic of the interior and the engine.

Looks to have been a decent buy from here. Good luck with it and enjoy it. Find where that oil leak is at ASAP. Go through and do regular "new" old car maintenance things such as changing fluids and making sure everything works, especially lights and wipers.

Make sure all your vacuum lines are attached, I think I see two to the middle-right of the intake manifold that aren't attached to anything.

Nice ductape intake as well.

Dose the car have any rust in it? Check the frame rails and the floors along with the rear hatch area and under the battery.

nah, any rust is only surface rust, i already checked....

and the duct tape was there when i bought it,

the previous owner said he "rebuilt" the engine recently,

but when i replaced the battery, the shop keepers told me that the battery that i had brought to replace wasnt even a car battery, it was an electric wheel chair battery. nice huh? no wonder it died two days after i got it...

but yea, changed it in a heartbeat.:stupid:

What part of California are you in? I notice that your car has heater hose where it should have emission hose. Got to change that soon. Do you have a factory service manual? How does it run?

nah, idk where the previous owner put the manual, it wasnt in the car...

ever since we changed the radiator fluid and sealed the leak and put in the new battery it starts up fine...but when it idles it jumps, and it cant stay constantly on 1000...we dnt know what thats about, but we are hoping that when school starts, the autoshop instructor will know...

Congrats on the purchase. Might take some time and $$ to get her perfect but once you get it running properly you'll have a reliable ride and in California you can get lots of good inexpensive parts at the scrap yards (from what I read). I believe alot of these beautiful cars went to scrap because emission laws made them too costly to fix.

Anyway enjoy the car - it will bring you alot of pleasure and as Bill implied - drive safe.

thnx bob, but trust me, i've been saving up for a project like this...money is not the problem and neither is time...i'll be workin on it everyday in autoshop when school starts...

Looks like you have quite a project to keep you busy. The rubber accordian (duct tape area) and Air Flow Meter (AFM) (box in front of all the duct tape) are the first place to correct to try and stabilize your idle. The connector on the AFM is famous for corrosion so check that first.
