I've been locksmithing for over 25 years - we don't ''mold'' anything except your credit card imprint into the receipt . Seriously the ''mold'' thing is Hollywood not reality - we '' impression '' a key to fit, generally we don't have to take anything apart . This is just one method of hand fitting a key to cars !

Mike , absolutely no burn or flame intended here , locksmithing as a trade is so misunderstood ......:cheeky:

By mold I just meant "make" a new key.

Whether they actually mold anything or not is beyond me. Making an impression and making a mold sounds like the same stuff anyways.

I was simply throwing the idea of having a locksmith create a new set of keys for her...

Er , hotwire won't work with the steering wheel locked . To just start the car you just remove the 2 small phillips head screws that holds the ignition ''driver cam'' onto the back of the ignition housing , and insert a small flat blade screwdriver and turn clockwise till the starter engages . Anyways , hope she gets help.

Congrats on getting the issue solved!

Getting a key made to the code shouldn't be very much at all....$15-$30. You can also just have them copy your existing key, though if the key has any wear it won't work as well as one made to the code number. An actual locksmith will be better than some key machine and attendant at home depot or something. Look up a locksmith in your phone book when you get around to making the keys.

so yeah, thanks for helping me in my stupidity.

Yah, no problem.....who can resist a pretty face and a fellow Z owner! LOL

Congratulations on getting the issue resolved in short order.

My '72 won't lock without the key (or pushing the lock down from the inside). I usually think of this as an inconvenience of old school technology, but your circumstance has made me think otherwise.

When did the Z-car go with the "improvement" that allows one to lock keys in their car?

Since your Mom's a member of AAA you might find that she can:

a) sponsor your membership into AAA, which is an old archaic term now in disuse, but ... sometimes ... it's good for a discount for either you or her. (It used to be, years ago, that you were sponsored by an existing member in order to join. When I joined (76) the salesperson who "sponsored" me was an existing member, wasn't that convenient.)

B) add you to her membership, which if you are already on her insurance would make the most sense. This option can be very inexpensive and cheaper than buying your own membership. This is what a lot of parents with children drivers do as long as the kids are on their insurance.

As far as locking your keys IN the car and IN the ignition, believe me when I tell you that you are NOT ALONE.

My first wife did it with the car .... RUNNING!

Heck, I did that once also: Michigan winter shortly after a minor blizzard/ice storm, was warming the car up and had the defroster going and by force of habit .... locked the darn door and swung it shut... tried to catch it and ended up with my finger mashed. Had to call my wife at 12:30 AM to come rescue me and then had to clear her through security (I was in the Air Force at the time).

My present day wife also did the same thing with the SPARE keys in the ignition... after having forgotten her purse with HER set of keys at a nightclub the night before when she was out with "the girls"... luckily a cop came by and got us "jimmied" open.

I'm sure others have similar stories, so before we hijack this thread too far, if people want to tell their story then I suggest that Khrystina take the fall (yes, we won't soon forget!) and start that thread. You can title it something like "OMG, I have CRS when it comes to keys!"

Glad it worked out.

Enrique

So, its not that you do not know how to spell, your just lazy. Contrary to what you believe, the teenagers of today wont make any more of a splash on society than the teenagers of yesterday.

Your apostrophe key appears to be broken. While wont is actually a word I suspect you were trying to use the contractions for both "you are" and "will not".

It is possible that the key code is on a tag inside the glove box if you can open the door.

Language is a living thing. It evolves as we do. Like it or not, text typing is part of that evolution. Let's give her a break and concentrate on the situation.
