Sad news, indeed.

According to John Morton, Paul is not expected to last more than a week or 2.

Picked up on the Healey list from the Vintage Race Group List ...

"8/13/2008 ... Lime Rock Park was closed down for an hour & a half today to honor Paul Newman. He was attended by his family, close friends, Skip Barber, mechanics on his race team, & those who happened to be at the track. PLN toured the track in his Corvette race car w/his Buick V8 powered Volvo station wagon following. He had come to say goodbye. Diagnosed w/terminal cancer, he is not expected to live beyond September. Race driver, actor, humanitarian, family man & friend - they did not come any better."

Sad to know that a real class act is about to leave us.

Such an unfortunate conclusion for such a remarkable man. Over $250 million raised for charity, a successful racing/acting/business career, all done with a "one of the guys" attitude that seems to be in short supply these days.

That's not good

Paul Newman is a real humanitarian.

Did you know that all profits from Newman's Own go to charity? He also did much to push the organic foods movement with Newman's Organic.

He will be missed.

Sad indeed - as a true fan of CART and Champ Car, he was loyal to the end.

While I've never seen him in person he actually owns a house less than a mile from mine. Even though he's always been a very private person he has been spotted shopping like the rest of as at the Home Depot and SuperTarget.

Sad news indeed. I remember watching him race at Lime Rock years back, (early '70's) and absolutely killing the rest of the field. Took the att. pic of Paul buying tires at the Goodyear trailer, and then walked back to his pit with him, talking racing. Great guy. Will be sorely missed in his many endeavors.

Got be one of the best actors of all time - favorite movies: Cool Hand Luke, The Verdict, The Hustler, The Sting, Colour of Money and Judge Roy Bean.

He is a very Cool Hand.

Great actor, sportsman, humanitarian and that's just his public persona. He has set the standard as a role model very high. I've never met him but did see him walking past the grandstands at MIS during a CART race years ago. When recognized and his name was called out, he would briefly stop, look over the top of his sunglasses, smile and raise his hand slightly above waist level, to acknowledge the crowd but try to not get too much attention. His passing will leave an empty spot in our hearts
