3.5 to 3.9 diff

I found a guy locally who has a load of assorted parts left over from modifying his 280 to drag race. He has a 3.9 rear end but it has been welded to get positive traction. My question is can I take the gears out of that and install them in my 3.5 housing. The vendor says it can be done, but befor I comit to buying the diffs I though I would check here at the site to see if there is any insight.

I am thinking the face of the ring gear can come off the plate and the 3.9 gear bolted directly in it's place (and of course the pinion would be changed out as well) :ermm: .

What do you think? Anyone done it?

:rambo: Need to know if you are putting it into a R180 or R200 case? I have both gears in the R200 case and don't see any problems with that change-over. Haven't seen it in a R180 case. But I have seen bigger racing gears in the R180. So it shouldn't be much of a problem. As long as you use the same style case. Good Luck, Rich.:pirate:
