Hey everybody, I've got this off-and-on metal on metal sound coming from what seems to be the clutch/flywheel area of my '74 260. It seems to do it most often when I start her up, but every now and then when I'm going down the road. It's a sort of "ka-teenk ka-teenk..." sound.

It's pretty annoying because it's fairly intermittent, and I can't really say that it does it when I do something in particular. It sometimes does it when start it up in the mornings, it sometimes does it when I'm going down the road, etc. I'm having a hard time figuring it out...

Any ideas to help with a diagnosis? It's been running like a top recently, and now that I'm going to need it to be my transportation for college, it starts clanking...

Thanks for any help! :)

Well, for me, that would be one of those things where since you going to have to pull it apart anyway to inspect it, I"d have a new disc, plate and t.o. bearing ready to replace what's in there now and hope that it's not a input or mainshaft bearing though those can be changed also.

Next time it does it push in the clutch and see if that changes anything. Or if it's doing it with the clutch pressed in pop it into neutral and let out the clutch. If there's a change that will help diagnose the problem.
