Posted August 25, 200816 yr comment_257898 Greetings-I'm the proud new owner of a 73 240z that had a previous life performing road-race + solo1 activities. It's not completely stripped- it's still streetable. The PO performed the toyota 4 piston caliper upgrade up front, but with solid rotors. The rear still has the stock drum brakes.I want to upgrade the brake capacity before I take it out on the track. Plus, the current brake condition is kind of an 'unknown' so I want to start with a clean slate.I've done a staggering amount of research... so far, the best cost/performance it seems the best is to do the following:Front: toyota 4x4 with 300zx vented rotorsRear: 240sx calipers/300zx solid rotorsMaster Cylinder: 280zFor those of you running this setup, are you happy with on-track performance? I want to avoid the time + effort of installing this setup if it's inadequate! For context, I will be leaving the engine stock internally, but will be adding a set of triple weber side-drafts plus a crank fired ignition system- so power won't be increased dramatically. But, some of the tracks around here have pretty aggressive braking sections...Higher performance alternatives seem to be the arizona z-car full race setup, or a wilwood + JSK parts is JSK defunct?? I can't seem to find a working website... edit, I found this: http://www.jskinnovations.com/ initially the website front page looked broken...Thank you for any feedback! August 25, 200816 yr comment_257902 We're running the front 300ZX vented set-up with stock rear drums (Porterfield 4S pads and shoes) in our 240 track car (180HP@rwhs) and we have never had a problem stopping the car or with fading of any kind.I have Wilwoods in the front and the 240SX rears in my street 240 (255HP@rwhs) and have had no issues with that set-up either. August 25, 200816 yr Author comment_257911 Thanks- that's very helpful info on your track car. I was considering a 2 piece setup for the front to reduce some unsprung weight. However, I'm concerned this would disrupt brake balance. What Wilwood setup did you go with in the front, and did you do anything special in the caliper selection to maintain proper bias?I was thinking of the JSK hats with smaller rotors, (11.75") and/or using front calipers with smaller pistons.I haven't done the math so I'm just coarsely considering the options....
