Posted August 25, 200816 yr comment_257981 After years of going back and forth I finally decided to build the Z cave. A detached 24x24 garage with a loft area. My wife is actually excited that she gets her garage back before winter. I also just purchased an original owner 1973 240Z that I will be picking up on Thursday, so the garage is perfect timing. I'll post some pictures of the Z when I get it home, and more of the "cave" when it's finished. The Z will need lots of TLC........ How many Z's fit in 24x24? , it's so funny you asked, I actually test fitted the 356, TR6 and my 240 and will have plenty of room for the upcoming 73. 5 can be done but with unique jacking and moving. I do need a sign that says "No SUV's allowed".......... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29169-the-future-z-cave/#findComment-257989 Share on other sites

August 25, 200816 yr comment_257996 Hi mally002:Looks like the construction is coming along quickly... Now is the time to build!!Tell us about the "loft area" - - does that mean you'll have enough height outside the loft to put a four post lift in? Sure wish I had made my garage with 14' high walls, instead of the usual 8'. I just didn't realize how inexpensive four post lifts would become...keep the pictures coming...FWIW,Carl B. August 25, 200816 yr comment_257997 Sweet! Have you done the math? How many Z's fit in 24x24? Hi Ron: Actually qw know it's not the math - - - the answer is: 2 Z's plus all the other junk that it takes to refresh one... Work Bench Parts Cleaner Compressor and Air hoses Package Racking to hold the parts Tool Chest + roll around tool cart Torch Set Pressure Washer & Steam Cleaner Shop Vac Small Parts Storage Ben Engine Stands Engine Lift Jack Stands Jacks - at least two Car Washing & Detailing Stuff - buckets etc. Lets see - what else am I squeezing between, triping over or having to move around?? Oh yes - a couple of cars:tapemouth If I could just put a 24x24 addition on this garage, I might have some room to workROFL FWIW, Carl B. August 25, 200816 yr comment_257998 24 X 24 sounds like a good size, but the word is "it will never be big enough" and with the inventory you have - it will be a squeeze even with creative parking. I built a 24 X 16 3 years ago and it definately shrunk over the past couple of years - I gutted it today to fit in a second car and it will be tight, but I don't have a garage for my other gear. I am looking forward to seeing your new car pictures as well. August 26, 200816 yr Author comment_258055 Looks great and wish I had room for one of those. So you built this by yourself?I'm actually using a contractor, but he is a close friend and I'm part time cheap labor. The post lift is still in the plans but not 100% The ceiling height is 9 feet except on one side where we left it open to the loft, that would be where the lift goes. I've looked at several lifts including the mobile version that gets you 48 to 53 inches in the air. Does anyone have any experience with this version?Of course this morning we were going to set the trusses and put on the roof but Trpoical Storm Faye is dumping buckets of rain, so we may have to wait.I'll throw up some pictures on Friday.
