75 280 wiper motor on 73 240

The 73 and 75 year model wiper motors have different wire color codes.

The 73 has blue, bluewhite, blueyellow, bluered, yellow, black.

The 75 is black, black, skinnier black, bluered, bluewhite, yellow.

The first two black wires in the 75 are thicker than the rest of the wires.

Some of the color codes are the same but does that mean they are a match?

Do any of you gentelmen know how I could possibly wire these two together with out letting the smoke out of the wiper motor?

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

The only way to do this would be to find someone with a factory service manual for both years and trace out the wiring and hook them up by the wiring diagram.

Just because they are the same color code does not necessarily mean they are the same.

Hopefully there will be someone with the manuals you need here, might take a while to get the right answer.

I do have a manual from chilton with both diagrams but it is not very useful, at least in my eyes.

But that could be just me getting a bit frustated with the minute size of the 75 diagram, you virtually need a magnifying glass to deal with that one.

Thanx for your help.

:classic: Ok I got the wiper motor in and and doing what it is supposed to, with one minor glitch, it seems to turn backwards , wipers turn towards the hood rather then along the windshield.:ermm: Perhaps I got something hooked up wrong mechanichally( wiper motor to wiper arm) .

Once I figure out where it went wrong I will post the matching collor codes for the different years(73 vs 75) maybe someone can use the info.

:stupid: The backward rotating wiper arm thing was just me not paying attention to detail. When I hooked the wiperarm to the wiper motor I failed to notice in what position the windshield wipers would be( I had the wipers off at the time).

All it took was undoing the nut holding the wiper arm to the motor, and putting the arm in the correct position then slapping the whole mess back together again.

Now regarding the different color codes, it all was rather simple.

blue with red stripe to blue with red stripe

thin black wire to the other thin black wire

yellow to yellow

bluewhite to bluewhite

blue with yellow to one of the thick black wires

and the solid blue to the other thick black wire

If you get the two thick black wires reversed you will notice that your wiper action is out of order. No need to mention how to fix that.

On both the 73 & 75 the color codes were actually a match. Except for the two thicker black wires and they just go with what is left over after you pair the other wires off.:classic:

Cost of wiper motor at bone yard- $10

Cost of manual labor - $ 0

Cost of new motor from motor sp - $ 200

Satisfaction of not having to pay $200 + shipping - PRICELESS:D
