Support the economy of your OWN country; if you want a new Japanese car, first move to Japan.

Both my Toyota and my Nissan were made in the US, by US workers.

I thought it was common knowledge that many models of Japanese cars were made in this country now; guess I was wrong.

Maybe they are making the cars in the U.S.A. ( not America) but then where does all the money (profits) from the purchases go? Back to Japan. The only consolation I can think of is that Ford has some Mazda stock.

I have friends that work for Chrysler in Windsor. I can tell you it pays the bills and puts food on their table. I think thats a pretty good consolation. Same with the folks at Honda in Alliston.

I think if U.S. companies were in a better state, maybe they wouldnt have to shut down the GM plant in Oshawa here. Lots of good people are going to be out of work next year, and thats going to destroy the town.

I also worked summers in a steel plant in Northern Ontario that shipped steel to several auto makers and related industry, and it put me through university.

In any case, yes, the economic situation and culture of Japan are more favorable to car building... But ignoring any excuses, you simply can't call the Japanese car crap (as compared to American cars, which are admittedly improving).

If we stopped sinking so much money into the pointless US auto industry, in the long run we'd be better off. Both candidates for president want to pay ridiculous amounts to bail the auto industry out; a better idea might be to help phase it out, so that we entered a more viable worldwide economic position, and helped those who would lose employment find jobs.

You should post this over at Hybridz.org - there are more people over there that will appreciate it for what it is. This site leans towards the "purist" mind-set. Awesome work you do there by the way.

No offense intended by my statement about "purists" - I visit three Z-car websites on a daily basis and all three fill a need in the Z community.

Ok, I'm a little confused. When did this site become a "purist" club? That's news to me... Considering that I'm the founder of the site, it's even bigger news. Why do people insist on telling people to go away like this?

The human-race is in this together, I just don't understand differences like this...... Do you just think you're happily banging away on an American-made computer keyboard? The shoes and clothing on your back are probably not from America. Or if they are, they're probably assembled in Vietnam or some other country.

Ever bother looking under the dashboard of your American made car? All those little components, circuit boards, modules, and technology...

Sorry, but, I just don't agree with this thinking -- ESPECIALLY since this website is here because a foreign company wanted to bring us something really cool... the 240z.

Uh...the front page says "Pride, Performance, Preservation ... We are a club set out to support the original Classic Datsun Z"

Preservation.Original.Classic Not exactly words you'll see at hybridz, is it? Then there's the attitude of some posters who bluntly state "The only Z has an inline 6, blahblahblah." I'm sure most recommendations to visit other sites are made with good intentions, as there's not a lot of helpful info here for ProStreet Zs.

If you want to know how to restore your S30 this is where the most relevant accurate info and experience resides. If you want to mod it, go to HybridZ where there's some significantly impressive posting that goes on about myriad topics ranging from turbo, suspension, aero changes, ECU tuning etc that just doesn't happen here. There are some other sites, but they are also-rans when it comes to CZC and HZ.

Refers to original thread - But, I'm glad the OP made the introduction because I went to his website and checked out his work. Suhweet work, too in my own humble opinion. Still couldn't find pics of the Z, but that may be me. Like I said in my original post, having rodders interested in the Z is only good news for maintaining the S30 in the classic car community.

An interesting perspective... I see that you live in California. Perhaps that explains the viewpoint. Outside of Silicon Valley there never was much heavy manufacturing in that state. Here in the rust belt things are changing for the worse in large part because our manufacturing economy has mostly moved off shore, leaving nothing in its wake.

As recently as 20 - 25 years ago, the majority of the population of Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio were employed in manufacturing. Today, it has largely dried up and moved to lower labor markets. There are some people (as you perhaps have noticed...) who still blame the "foreign" car companies for that, even when today some of them (Honda for instance) make more cars here than they do in Japan. Personally, I believe that resentment is misplaced.

Sometime, in another forum I would love to hear what you think CAN replace those jobs, but for now perhaps we should all TRY to remain civil.

Yes, we are here to talk about the original Z. But, that doesn't mean we are unwilling to discuss concepts like the one here. I'd love to take my semi-modified foreign car to a mostly-American hot rod show to see how it goes off... ;)

Yes Mike, in teh interweb, this is known as the "keep it original" Z site and "Hybrid Z" is the "modify it' site. Has been as far back as I can remember. You can tell by the lack of RB Z's and V8 Z's on this site, and the general reaction to modified Z's. You may not have planned for it to be like that, but it's just the way things turned out.

Yea, I am getting that feeling. :) I'm so happy to know that we are able to help fill a need.

That's because consumers her in the U.S. allow it and are greedy enoug to look the other way in order to save a buck. We have in this country the resources to be self-sufficient, but capitalism and greed are undermining the whole country's value, both here and abroad.

And yes, the first few computers, keyboards, T-shirts, and cars were totally made in the U.S.A. without any importing. Then people got greedy...

Ehh, this is a stretch. We are traditionally union-minded, which honestly doesn't help - US workers (factory and non-factory) tend to be higherpaid and less productive than any other nation, but that's systematic, not being better equipped. It's due to American company greed, both on part of the unions and management. The story of GM and it's fall from grace is quite sad when you think about it.

Perhaps that's semantics on my part - Harley-Davidson is a good example of an American manufacturing company that is succeeding both in sales and quality product.

I still can't believe that some people think Japanese cars are cheap. I've owned a ton of American cars, barely any of them were of high quality. All the Japanese cars I've owned were tanks. Maybe luck of the draw, but the sales numbers are clear - Toyota is the #1 manufacturer in the world, and it wasn't by building cheap junk.

This might sound great down at the local redneck bar, Tomo, but if you break out your history books you will see that you are wrong on several points. Isolationism has been tried, and the result in our case (I'm speaking americacentrically, I know we have a world audience in here and I apologize) was several hundred thousand dead Americans. World Wars I and II, maybe?

As a self-described fan of Japanese cars, I can't believe your close-minded attitude towards foreign imports, or your lack of understanding where the world economy is concerned.

Here's an idea. Sell your worthless, cheap, Jap piece of junk and buy a Mustang II. Oh, wait....are there any of those left?
