jmark Posted September 7, 2012 Author Share #133 Posted September 7, 2012 Greetings from Lincoln Airpark! John took the year off due to car/time/family balance issues. With Toby moving on to road racing, it was time all of us perennial bridesmaids get to shine! :-)We drove the harder/ technical course today and move to a much more flowing course tomorrow. Rick and I are hoping it will favor the Z's. Tune in tomorrow to find out. The weather Is looking awesome for tomorrow we shouldn't have any rain to help the evo. But for what its worth, it was 102 and sunny on Tuesday until a small hail storm blew through! TomI am glad nothing bad prevented John from running this year. Good luck Tom & Rick! fp280z Posted September 9, 2012 Share #138 Posted September 9, 2012 Congrats to Henry, he threw down a flyer of a run on Friday that none of us could match! Great driving! As for me (and the car) we definitely had a chance at the win. I was a single driver and had to take advantage of every run as the tires heated up to temp. Unfortunately I made a couple of errors on each of my third runs and had to stand on my second runs. That's the difference between a champion and third place! The car was certainly not holding me back though. I'm very happy about my first podium finish at Nationals!Jon, shoot me some info on your power steering setup if you don't mind. And John C., let's talk shock valving. I have the SA race Konis. John Coffey Posted September 10, 2012 Share #140 Posted September 10, 2012 Later this year I should have a setup using 36mm Bilstein Motorsports shocks. That would be worth waiting for.

Great driving!Jon, shoot me some info on your power steering setup if you don't mind.Congrats to you too! Here is my HybridZ thread on ps: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/97073-woodward-power-steering-project/I think I'm going to have to do an entirely new crossmember, and it is the part of my project that has basically stalled me out for a couple years. tholt29 Posted September 10, 2012 Share #142 Posted September 10, 2012 Congrats to Henry! Like Rick said, he just crushed us right out of the box on Friday morning. I think the magic was his Avon slicks. Those are soft compound hillclimb tires which are designed to work best in cooler temps. Thursday was pretty hot, about 90 and sunny and The Hoosiers seemed to have a slight advantage, but not much. Friday was cloudy windy and cool (about 65 at race time) and Henry goes out and turns a 56.6 on cold tires vs my 58.1 on warm tires (co drivers help here). After that initial heat cycle, Henry couldn't get back under 57... A lot of folks are rethinking their tire options for next year! (not to mention suspension upgrades)! The next year could get expensive!Tom
John Coffey Posted September 11, 2012 Share #143 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) Don't forget the diff. There is a lot of differential tuning in the BMW. Almost as much development effort went into the diff (including the mounting) as the shocks. When Toby won last year he was down on power compared to John's 240Z.
