Posted September 6, 200222 yr comment_15054 Ok, I was driving the Z quite hard, and I took a sharp left turn (drifting in fact) and was running with a fuu tank of gas... As I excited the turn, I could smell a bad vapor of gas coming from behind.. I just freaked out...:dead: Well, stop on the side of the road, and saw a huge amout of gas that did came out of the fuel filler cap.. Have you guys experienced this before??? The rubber on the cap is ok (might be on the dry side to my thought), but the gas cap was perfectly tight yesterday.. What is wrong?? Any tips??? September 6, 200222 yr comment_15055 A man goes to see a doctor and says, "It hurts when I raise my arm like this."The doctor says, "stop raising your arm."My advice is don't slide through turns with a full tank of gas. I've had many cars spill gas when I overfilled them at the pump. September 7, 200222 yr comment_15071 As Laffeaux stated, DON'T DO THAT! Although the gas cap does do a major job in holding in the gas, it's most important function is to stop stuff from going IN. With a full tank of gas (about 18 US) weighing probably 7 lbs per gallon, a sharp left turn would probably put at least 30 to 50 pounds of pressure on it from inside. Now, if you want, we can probably engineer some sort of gymbal setup with gyroscopes so that you can go ahead and go around corners on two wheels, but that might be overkill.......... September 7, 200222 yr comment_15091 Double check your vent lines, you may have one that is either blocked, or possibly kinked. It may be that the tank is not venting and building up a little pressure and the "belch" came out the cap.Or your cap is just not sealing the way it should.:cross-eye Or it could be the cap is sealing too well, as the vent line from the vapor tank is under the cap and the cap may not be releasing the pressure.Look at your hoses and/or try a different cap.:sleepy: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2933-oh-merde-gas-spill/#findComment-15091 Share on other sites
