eBay audacity

Alan,

Taken from context your point makes sence, but exactly in who in France is he going to report a buyer in the USA to that will care?

Will

I don't wish to appear rude, but I'm afraid I don't understand what you have written. Therefore I cannot answer you.

If the ad had been for the entire stripped chassis with nothing cut out, you would have excluded the majority of the thieves because of the logistics, paper trail and sheer work involved-when you add anonymity and ease to any transaction you invite people to step out of their persona-what happens anonymously stays anonymous-selling the get out of jail (consequences) free.

err, who's to stop anyone putting 1 + 1 = 3, buying the whole chassis, cutting out the relevant bits, dumping said complete chassis over here and posting back the relevant bits ready to turn $2000 into $10000 ! That pays for a return air ticket AND the fuel surcharge !

Only I would know who had the souvenirs but then again, they could be sold on........but I'd know that it might re-surface again sooner or later. No, I wouldn't report it to the law, certainly not here -they wouldn't give a damn but I would start a thread on THIS forum if I saw someone trying to cash in. No, not jealousy !

The auction effectively gave someone that scenario.

Will

and why I regret not offering the whole chassis :)
Defending the value of earlier cars isn't necessary, look at ebay sales, they sell for more-why isn't important, the fact is that they do. I can explain why the sky is the color it is, but does that explanation change the color of the sky?

YES, it is important - why do they sell for more ? Is there no-one over there who can or will explain this ?

The explanation of the colour of the sky might change one's perception of it - arr, blue sky means sunshine or does it mean no rain ?

Yes Alan, I'm silly but isn't this fun ? Wish someone would enlighten me as to why these, err, 'series 1' cars are worth so much more !

The phone did ring off earlier and I heard a strange 'click' so maybe I'm being watched - there was a 1950s' Chevy intercepted recently with +++kgs of pure coke in it's chassis rails so maybe they think I'm dealing 'cept this Zs' rails have so many holes it'd all fall out !

Are you so sure that if I'd sold the VIN and later seen the car for sale that I wouldn't have reported it ?

That was more the subject of my reply in both posts.

They were more a comment on how laughable that statement is when it comes to having any impact at all.

I don't think the Chief Inspector would get any further than "Does Your dog bite?"

Pretty much the same point you made

Will

And you're missing my point - I wouldn't report it (ie officially to a flic or ebay or whatever), I'd publicly state it here, on this forum that it seems incredible to see my old 4944 restored SO quickly and up for sale at such a price !

I don't snitch on others, I let their own conscience work - it either does or doesn't and aint my problem !

I vote for Obama, for someone to direct their gaze within the states, try to move things in the right direction and not continue or start another war against the next baddie and keep attention fixed elsewhere than at home.

Point is guys, stop trying to police the world - you've enough sh*t to deal with back home - I've just watched a programme talking about the 2 million tyres lurking off Floridas' coastline, being cleared up by the US army at a rate of 65,000 per year and then driven to Georgia where they're recycled. And off New York, they threw in twenty or so train carraiges, again in the dream to stimulate coral and fish enclaves.......

There is no petty crime - there is just crime !

Someone explain to me why early cars are sought after - please ! And do YOU drive around in a non-standard Z - legally a potential death-trap ?

oh, and don't forget to have yourselves a nice weekend ; I will - my daughters' 1 year old tomorrow, it was my wedding anniversary yesterday and we're going gliding Sunday.

Ooh and my 240's going to have a new (yes, brand new - never used) gearbox put in early next week. The sacrilege of it is that it isn't even a Z or ZX box !

Just to round off, do you agree to scrap 10 Z to save one or watch 11 quietly rot away ?

Pride

Performance

Preservation

Principles ?

I repeat, R.I.P no. 4944...........................unless I win the lottery in which case she'd finish up like a mother-...ing ace of a Z !

Ta chaps !

Game over?

Got something to add or are you just diggin the free entertainment? I find it interesting how few people are willing to voice an opinion on an issue such as this. Are you afraid of a wave of ridicule or rhetoric coming from across the Atlantic? Don't be; all I hear coming is obvious contempt for the laws of other countries, total disregard of the consequences of peddling these ready made fraud kits, for personal gain, all the while making a mockery of our intelligence, thinking anyone would see these as nothing more than souvenirs being offered for sale. Perhaps this thread did serve a purpose after all. Maybe some of us took the time to learn about the laws pertaining to the sale of this material or the legality of swapping VINs. Contrary to what some of you think, it is against US Federal law to take it upon yourself to swap VINs for any reason. Same goes in Canada, even if a title can be bought as a keepsake only. Hopefully, you remembered some of our members who had their Zs stolen and never recovered, possibly parted out or perhaps assuming a new identity with the help of a friendly souvenir peddler. Must be very gratifying to not only aid in the corruption of the legitimacy of Zs from afar, but also turn a tidy profit while tempting Z fans to perform a criminal act. Yep, audacity!

And all the while tossing in some not-so-subtle digs about how everything is "terribly wrong" in our country too. Like France (or any country for that matter) is the perfect role-model for the world these days. Deflect from the real story- about selling an envelope containing a ready-made fraud kit, and try to be cute about it too. NOT.

Meh. Now I'm really rooting for the trench coats to come-a-knocking.

Bring your lead pipes and rubber hoses boys! ;)

Or simply use the script from the latest "Casino Royale" and bring along a knotted rope.
