Memoirs of your past Datsuns

five&dime

Recommended Posts

I searched a bit but didn't find anything similar. I thought it would be cool to have a thread for people to post pictures and/or stories about their first Datsuns. My current orange 72 510 is my first and only Datsun...... For now :)

Of course I grew up around Datsuns b/c my dad (Diseazd) had a ton of them. I was just telling him today that it's kind of cool that some of my first memories are pretending to drive in the 510 shells leftover from his resto. Very cool to have one now and have that nostalgia.

Anyhew.... I scanned a bunch of his old photos and thought you all would enjoy these and then post your own.

I will let him post a reply to share some info on his many past Datsuns. I know the black car was his first and I believe he purchased it used in 71 or 72. The rest of the 510's were over the late 70's early 80's I believe.

Cheers

Brandon

Oh my gosh.....The black Z was my first Z. Bought her in 1970....the car would really roll! We used to run her at "Road Atlanta" with the Corvette Club.Every cop in Dekalb Co. Georgia knew that car........That's one reason I had to move to Richmond. The "hottie" is Zero Z's mom! The other Datsun's followed only about 10% are shown....at least a half dozen 510's and another dozen Z's including the 3 I now own.

The "hottie" is Zero Z's mom!
I thought about asking that question, but decided it might be inappropriate! Thanks for sharing that!

As for previous Datsun's, I'll need to dig through stacks of pictures and see if my scanner still works. Because all my extended family's Datsun history prior to my Zs was more than 25 years back. A '74 B210, '69 520, '74 620 and an '81 720 4x4. A high school buddy had a '73 610 coupe, too.

I'll see how many of the I can find pics of. I know I don't have any pictures of the 70 or the 72 240Z, or any of the 510s I had except. the blue one. I really wasn't into taking photos of cars until the digital age. I'll have to go through the old family pictures to see what I can find but it won't be all of them.

I'll have to dig mine out too. Prior to my current '72 240Z, I owned a '76 280Z (one of my first cars) and a '85 Nissan Truck (which was a nice red color).

I was in high school when I bought the 280Z (this is 22 years ago). It was a green color with a white interior, stick (of course). I had 3 other friends, all had 280Zs - one had a '77 with a SBC Chevy (although it was original when he bought it - we all chipped in to do the engine swap), the other 2 guys had '78s I believe. The others were the light blue color (which I personally love).

My car had a "hotter" cam - and a JCR "big throat" throttle body. I put hotter in quotes - I don't remember the specs, but since it was mild, I don't know what gains (if any) I got from it. Back then, we were of the mind set that adding a K&N filter gave you 200 extra HP ;)

I did drag my 280Z - did a 15.8 1/4 mile, so I believe it had some extra nuts over stock. I also (street) raced a then new 300ZX NA and beat it pretty good. Those were the days.

My poor Z met its demise as I was driving home from college, in the rain. The car slid and hit a curb, the passenger side frame rail cracked, leaving the front wheel dangling from the suspension bits only.

Like the others I'll have to find my old boxes of pictures and see how they scan. I did find one of my old 1970 240Z, this was my second 240 that I owned. Hopefully I can find pictures of my first one, a blue on blue, unfortuantly it was totaled after only three weeks of ownership.......74 year old lady rearended me at 65mph......

And here's the rest of what I could find right now as you can only do 10 images in a post:

1994 Sentra

1993 Infiniti J30

1994 Infiniti Q45

If you add the three in my signature picture that's 17 counting the two in the one picture above. There was the 70 and 72 240Zs I don't have pics of, and the 4 other 510s I don't have pics of, a 66 PL410 sedan, and a 67 RL411 sedan, a 71 1200 fastback, a 74 B210 fastback, two other pickups, a 71 and a 72 521. That woud about cover the Datsuns but there are several Nissans I also couldn't find pictures of. The other ten cars I owned were a 62 Chevy Impala SS, a 66 Ford Mustang GT fastback, a 66 Ford Mustang notchback, a 70 Plymouth Duster 340 6 Pack, a 64 Ford Econiline Van, a 66 Plymouth Belvedere 4dr, a 56 Pontiac Station Wagon, a 58 Rambler American, A 71 Ford Pinto, and a 65 Ford Falcon. Not in that order. It's hard enough to remember all of the cars. I know that the first one I ever owned was the 58 Rambler, the first new one I ever bought was the 70 240Z, and the 810 was the last car I purchased.
