Factory V8 240Zs

Hi all,

all this chatter of the new 350Z and V6 vs inline 6 engines,

and gossip of having V8 engines in S30 zed cars....

did you know that the factory actually also tried the 240Z with a V8 President engine!!!

In Brian Long's book he wrote that they found it "although very fast, the weight of the unit affected the handling"

I saw an auto 2 seater Z a 260 I think, few years ago in Sydney. I think the guy who owned it was from Tassie it had the 4.4 President with a holley carb, this was in 93/93 when they still would not let you register with the manual box.

So your saying Nissan actually tried the V8??? I heard that Bob sharp racing put the engine in from a limo and used it to race with twin turbo's. It was a 280zx however not a s30. I also heard rumours that the Z was originally gonna have a 4 cylinder also...

Can anyone confirm any of this????

Also why wouldn't they let you register a Manual V8 Z???? only auto???

Except that the way it is done (or can be) now doesn't affect handling. When done correctly you end up with almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution and a car that screams. Just ask Pete Paraska. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/pparaska/index.html

send most of the replies to this thread are from ozzy what do you guys believe the best v8 for a down under zed would be ?

Can't see why you would put a cast iron v8 in but would love to know about anyone who has done a lexus conversion. local guy in W.A has a 3.5 rover in his 260 and that looks sweet. No extra power but he says the car handles much better.

Anyone got any stories.

Geof,

it is great hear someone is enjoying the power of V8 in a 260Z in NSW. The RTA was really hard on any V8 transplants to the early Z body in NSW at one stage. They had a blanket ban on any V8 manual 240Z or 260Z that presented for rego. Most autos where approved. To this day I dont know exactly why.

W.A.ZED, when it comes down to engines for transplant it is endless here in Australia but the two best options are 4.4 v8 P76 engine to keep your balance right. It is as good as the 3.5 but you can probably get better support with the 3.5.

For my money go the VH45DE or its smaller brother both built by a true Z affiliate " infinity" by NISSAN. The logic behind this is technoligy power possible power upgrades and fully supported by the NISSAN dealer network in Australia, INFINITY with the VH45DE was an Australian released model. The importers have heaps of the engines around, why go TOYOTO think about it.

HI.

DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANYMORE INFORMATION ON THESE 4.4L ZED CARS. I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS JUST AN EXPERIMENT OR DID THE FACTORY ACTUALLY CAMPAIGN IT. I WAS ALSO WONDERING IF YOU GUYS KNOW ANY PRIVATE TEAMS,THAT USED A NISSAN V8 SETUP, IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES.

THANKS.

AHMED.

I think it might be the same guy, but I have seen a P76 V8 swap in Perth.

The swap was done to a white 260Z coupe by a guy called Robin. He had the same report of only a incremental improvement in power levels but a whole lot less weight in the front and no more understeer. And yes it does look sweet in the engine bay!

Apparently the fact that Nissan made a factory V8 Z makes it easier to register a V8 Z in WA.
