Last known 1970?

Interesting as trivia, but meaningless. Many states in the US had different rules on titling and registration. As long as the car was sold prior to the end of the year, it was legal to title it as a '70 in some states.

My yellow car was a 10/70, so one month prior to that car. The emissions sticker under the hood said it conformed to 1971 model year standards. That tells me that - regardless what the production date and title say - Nissan considered it to be a 1971 model year car. I'll bet that the sticker for the car in the auction (probably long gone by now) said the same.

I just had to update this thread. After this car was listed 4 times, a friend of mine bought it. I trailered it home for him. On the way there Brian was navigating with the MapQuest printout. He did a great job and we got there no problem. The very last instruction he gave me was, turn right at the next street. Get this... it was Beck Road. I thought that was fitting, to find a Z parked at the end of Beck Road!LOL

Now that a friend bought it- was it registered as a 1970 Model Year? How old is the previous title?

The reason I ask about the title - is that people are now "correcting" the Model Year on Series I cars - changing them from being registered as 71's to 70's. If the title was issued more than 5 years ago - it is most likely the way it was originally issued.

I'll have to update my listings...

FWIW,

Carl - I'll ask if he can send a scan of the title to you to update your list. I had it in my hand yesterday but didn't even look at it.

Arne - We are all in agreement that there was discretionary action taken by the various state licencing offices and the model year on the title really doesn't mean diddly. The only reason I found this of any interest was because up till now my Z had the distinction of being the highest VIN Z originally titled as a 1970. Yeah I know, big deal.

Oh. I didn't realize that you had the previous 'record', Ron. That would tend to make one more intrigued by this particular bit of trivia.
