Posted September 18, 200816 yr comment_260818 While I am a fan of keeping my car stock, I wanted to touch on the subject of the air intake box on the stock 280z. Does the stock setup restrict air flow versus using one of the K&N canister type air intake tip filters? I currently use the K&N filter for stock air intake box. Would this be about the same (intake wise)? Thanks! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29411-air-intake-canister-vs-stock-box/ Share on other sites

It opens things up, and keeps the stock air horns. Other than the sound I don't think it really made any difference though. September 18, 200816 yr comment_260825 I made this a couple of years ago out of aluminum tubing and a K&N cone. I decided to make my own because the commercially available ones don't come far enough over and basically end up with the filter behind the left turn signal and I wanted it in the center. Does it out perform a stock system with a K&N drop in? Not really sure. Perhaps psychologically because you can hear it but I'm not certain I can really feel any difference.
