A little Eibaching help please...

I've installed my eibach springs with part number 001 (the longer, less progressive springs) in the front, and part #002 with the shorter, more progressive springs in the rear. As per pics in post 21 in this thread. This is the fender gap I still have after 100 plus miles of driving:

There is a fender gap of about 2" from top of tire to bottom of fender on the front, and maybe 3/4" gap in the rear. It really makes me question whether I need to swap the springs front to rear because it looks so nose-high. But that's contrary to most of the postings I've read.

Who's got Eibachs installed with the tighter, shorter springs in the front, and what does the ride height look like? Can anyone else chime in on this? It's frustrating to think I'd have to take this apart and do it again, but it just doesn't look right to me.

Thanks,

Phil

You did it correctly. There's always more gap in front. You have a motor up front, the car shifts forward weight when you apply the brakes and the front wheels turn as apposed to the rears. So there's always more gap in front.

My car is on Post #12 and you can see the front has more gap.

Your Z looks great,

Dave

The Eibachs are going to keep your nose slightly higher. I came from a set of Tokico red springs, so it was quite noticeable to my eye, but slowly I either got used to it, or they settled out after some driving. Looks fine to me now.

If you switch the springs, you'll have the opposite problem, and it will be to a much greater degree...

The Tokico springs gave it a slightly lower and more even stance, which I admit, looked pretty sweet, but we have some monster speed bumps around here in nearly every parking lot and I got tired of hearing my exhaust scrape on them.

Don't know if this is worth mentioning but the local Z doctor determined that one of the rear stock springs I ordered for my 240 was for a 280 because the diameter of the spring wire (not the diameter of the whole coil) was wrong. He determined that with a caliper and I believe the FSM but don't quote me.

I have a 280z with Eibach springs. I have installed them correctly, and there is barely any gap in the front (possibly 1 finger gap), and I have about 2 finger gap in the rear.

Since this is for the 280z, it may sit different from the 240z.

Just to mention: If my car was raised with wheels off the ground, the front spring becomes loose, but the rear is not. But when I installed the rear springs, it almost fit perfectly. Not loose, nor did I need to compress the spring. According to other people who have installed correctly, also said the front springs will be loose with wheels off the ground.

6303.002 - rears (longer and progressive)

I just finished cutting one coil from my front-passenger side eibach, and plan to do the driver's side tomorrow night. I think I must have received 280Z springs, because no matter what I did, she still sat too "nose high".

Should drop the nose about 1" and I expect she will sit almost flat with a very slight forward rake. I used a Dremel and carbide cut-off wheels to trim the spring. I'll find out later this week how it affects handling.

That's funny, because I'm trying to lower my rear.

I'm bought some 240z top spring perches for the rear (not as thick as my 280z rear top spring perches). They are suppose to lower the rear about 1". I listed my 280z spring numbers in couple posts above, so see if you really received the 280z springs.

thats the way to go in my opinion, without possibly losing handling or ride comfort/ability.

Quick update on my cutting my springs. The springs are cut and I drove the car tonite after work. She now sits level, (no rake).

I did a quick spring calculation. Since the coil I cut was a half-height coil, my thumbnail guess is it got about 7% stiffer.

On the road, it feels just a tiny bit stiffer. I pushed it a little on a couple corners, and it seems to make no difference in handling. I'm OK with it being slightly stiffer and sitting level.

Now I can adjust the headlights!
