WOW!!! I saved about $900. by doing it myself!! Way cool!! I must show the wife!! (Extra points always good to put in the bank!)

Or the mechanic was on the fast-track for retirement (more likely).

Plus the $952 for the slave cylinder. Maybe they just replaced the whole gearbox at the same time

I think the replacement floor pan that is mentioned in the repairs was just a plain piece of sheet metal welded in, rather than a proper pressed replacement pan. Not as 'correct' as we might like, but beats the heck out of a rusty hole!

And yeah, those prices are outrageous! There would be a shop to avoid...

Last year I got a local shop to changeover my transmission (to 5 speed) install a clutch and PP, new slave cylinder and balance the wheels for around $400.

This auction info sounds like a severe hosing or exageration.

That must be a 'before' shot, then....clearly there is no floor in the photo (you can see the concrete, complete with shadows), but a floor is visible in some of the other photographs. Still, I bet you're right and they just tacked in a piece of sheet metal.

It was only driven 5 miles before going back to the shop for yet more work? I think I'd put up with sloppy steering for a while. What's the "Ball" part anyhow?
