the_cafe Posted September 29, 2008 Author Share #14 Posted September 29, 2008 Now at least try and run a side pipe like a 66 Corvette or simliar era. funny that you mention that because it just so happens to be i had been thinking that up too! i was acutally pondering the idea of unbolting the manifold from the engine and seeing what that sounded like and to see what the butt dyno felt like compared to when it had the muffler. hopefully more power. but then came my neighbor. maybe when i go trail riding next il unbolt it then when im out in the middle of no where. that way everybodys happy. That's a sure-fire way to burn/warp an exhaust valve
the_cafe Posted September 30, 2008 Author Share #18 Posted September 30, 2008 i think all in all i will end up having a fab shop make a side exahust with a glasspack running along the edge below the body. next mod will be making a snorkle for better air flow. beandip Posted September 30, 2008 Share #19 Posted September 30, 2008 When I found my Z next to the barn , I met the guy that owned it . He had another Z in the barn he was working on. He didn't know Jack S either and had the exhaust removed and would start the engine and rev it. Just to hear it run with the header. This is what his neighbor told me . After a few times doing this , he did it on a cool evening and warped 4 valves. Come to think of it , this is about the time he sold me my 240 for $500.00. Ha ha . Mr Camouflage Posted September 30, 2008 Share #20 Posted September 30, 2008 Why do the exhaust valves warp if you don't have an exhaust manifold bolted up?
Force Fed Posted September 30, 2008 Share #21 Posted September 30, 2008 Cold air meets hot valve Sorta like pouring cold water onto a hot pan, cools too quick and warps.
conedodger Posted September 30, 2008 Share #22 Posted September 30, 2008 That purple car behind you with the Christmas lights is going to take your car away and put you up for the night... Isn't that mountie hat he is wearing cool! Yes, your engine will run better with some back pressure to keep the exhaust moving in the right direction. Otherwise it tends to pulse back and forth. Engineers designed this. Unless you are smarter, fix your exhaust.Yes, you will burn or warp valves. Are you sure you're not in Canada? Zed is usually a term used by Canada, New Zealand, Aus, and Britains... Not that I have a problem with that. Geez, I remember a flame war on the old IZCC mail list about the Zed vs. Z thing.
