Brembo Aluminum Drums are NLA

I found out about this when I started looking for some spares before the Labor Day races at Barber Motorsports par. At that time there were 3 drums in Nissan's inventory (at $185/ea). I tried ordering from several places that said they had them in stock, but all were out.

Further checking reveals that the company that was building them for Brembo has no current plans to make another production run unless they receive an order of 1500+.

There is an Ebay vendor that I have bought from in the past that was listing a pair or drums for $349.

I told a couple of Z racers about the drums and picked up several good used drums that should last me for a while. For those of you looking for drums, good luck. Rumor has it that an Asian manufacturer has said they will produce the drums but in steel, not aluminum.

Bottom line, if anybody has a couple good used aluminum drums that I can get a couple of races out of before they go over diameter, and won't break my wallet, send me a pm.

I am not trying to hoard but for a full season of racing it may take several sets of drums for me next year.

Thanks and I thought you guys should know about this for your concours (did I spell that right ) restorations.

I switched to discs on my 240Z, but when I was checking into parts replacement for the drums initially, I checked at Halsay import parts in Portland who were able to get them new. This was in March of 08, so it could be that their source has dried up by now but its worth a shot if anyone really needed some.

I do have the drums that were in my car still. They're for sale if you want them. (Insert Star Wars scene here...haha)

If anyone wants the drums, pm me and I can send info and pics. I have no idea what the going rate is for a pair of decent drums, but I'll sell 'em for a fair price.

Oh, about $100 each. That is the primary difference.

Both brands of drums are aluminum with a steel braking insert. This spring I bought the Brembo parts from MSA, and they seem to be identical to the old parts that were on my car, except not worn out obviously. I am not saying of course that I know the old drums were actually Nissan parts.

Courtesy Parts still lists the Nissan part for $191.22 each. I don't need new drums at the moment, so I didn't try to order them. But with shipping a pair from Nissan is going to run around $430.

MSA's web site still shows the drums as available for $90.95 each, but I guess if you tried to order drums from either source you might be in for an unhappy surprise. I know that the local big box chain auto parts stores here in town couldn't get ANY drums for a 240Z when I rebuilt my brakes this spring.
