Posted September 29, 200816 yr comment_261996 Hi,I've just started my search for a Z, and I found this site in the process.I'm interested in the first gen Zs (I think that is what the '70-78 ones are called). I'm still wading through all of the info on these cars.-Ross Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29533-newbie-from-wa/ Share on other sites
September 29, 200816 yr comment_261998 Welcome to the site! I'm sure when you're done wading in all the info you'll make up your mind as to what you want in a Z car. Pretty much everything you might need to know is probably here somewhere if you search for it. September 29, 200816 yr comment_261999 Welcome. Interesting screen name. Is that for 'Noise, Vibration, and Harshness?' I studied a little engineering back in school but only about enough to remember some of the terminology. I guess you could call them 'first gen' but since you talking 70-78, S30 would be more accurate. When I was a newbie I knew little, but these guys all brought me up to spec. Awesome "City" we have here in this blessed little corner of the world. And everyones's always willing to help. Every little bit of info from electrical specs to race history is in these guy's stories. And so much more ~Z~ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29533-newbie-from-wa/#findComment-262014 Share on other sites
September 30, 200816 yr Author comment_262016 Thanks for the welcome everyone!Yep, the NVH does stand for noise, vibration and harshness. I tend to gravitate to cars that fall into this category. In the past, I've owned a '65 Mustang, '93 Firebird Formula, '80 RX-7, and a '93 Mustang Cobra. Right now I have a '98 Pontiac GP GTP. While I love the whine of the SC, it's pretty heavy and WWD for me so I've started my quest to find a Z.It sounds like there's great support here, so I look forward to becoming a member of this community. September 30, 200816 yr Author comment_262040 Thanks Mike! I may take you up on that offer at some point. It seems that rust is the big monster on these cars, so it'd be nice to have someone who knows exactly where to look with me.Do you know anything about Z Specialties in Snohomish? I've driven past there on the weekends, but they are always closed (looks like he's only open during the weekdays). The owner appears to have several Zs on the lot in a variety of conditions. I think Zs-ondabrain (Dave from Marysville) is familiar with Ollie the owner.-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29533-newbie-from-wa/#findComment-262042 Share on other sites
September 30, 200816 yr comment_262052 Yup, he's there on the week-ends sometimes, but you'll never get him to answer the door. That's his Private time. Oliver's a good guy and definately knows his way around a Z.By the way, First Gen would be known as the S30 as they were the first Z cars until the body change in 79 thru 83. Series one would be the very first marketed design of the 240Z (69' to early 71') The Series 1 Z is recognized mainly by it's vented hatch (2 chrome horizontal vents) and 240Z emblem on the upper quarter panel behind the quarter window (Datsun circle with "240Z" written across the circle. My numbers may be off a little but there was only about 16,000 ?? series 1's.Series 2 Z's have vented quarter panel emblems and non vented hatches. There are Many differences between years but no matter what you get, you'll find everything you need to know about that speciofic year right here at CZCC (Classic Z Cars Club)I'm in Marysville, write me any time you're gonna be in the area, we'll shoot the shite and go from there. October 1, 200816 yr comment_262138 Ross, what's your budget, and do you have a preference for a particular year or model of S30? There's been a few really nice 280Zs offered down here in Oregon....
