I have a '72 240 with a 280 block and the original head, carbs and distributer. It used to have smog equipment but, with the help and advice from this forum, it has all been removed with the exception of the anti-backfire valve and pcv.

The question is where do I set the timing? I think the 240 called for 10 degrees and the 280 17 degrees. Any help is appreciated.

P.S. As a side note: I capped off the tube that took the exhaust back from the exhaust manifold and recirculated it. I plan to get headers eventually when the engine is rebuilt. However, for now can I cut those tubes exiting the manifold and bend them over the nut with a little hammer and chisel action or am I better offer leaving it in place.

Thanks again!
