Rota RB 16". not lowered. How would it look? Pics of yours?

Like many, I really covet the Panasports, but am unwilling to fork over that kind of money. I found some 15" and 16" Rota RB wheels with the right offset, actually -4. I don't want extremely low profile tires, as it make the wheels look too modern for the car (to me). Probably 205 or 215 55's or 60's I do not want to lower the car either. Does anyone have any pics of z's on 15's 16's, not lowered. Of course I don't want it to look too tall, or have too much space b/w the top of the tire and the wheel well. I realize that it's all subjective. BTW, I am not racing, just driving hard on some of my favorite twisties around town. I want to leave the ride height the way it is so I can put on the original wheel/hubcap set up and it look original if I choose. Thanks for your help,

Adam

here they are on a 77Z, stock suspension

16" +4 offset Rota RB's w/ 225/50...they were a little tight for clearance up front during turning. if i'd do it again i'd go with 225/45 on a 77Z.

*****keep in mind that a 77 sits higher than a 240. you'll probably be ok with 215/50, 215/45....ish

better off taking the new wheels to a tire store and have them test fit a set or two, rather than buying the tires through a catalog

1974 260Z - Stock suspension that needs some work.

16x7 with 225/50/16 tires. Tires are too wide and rub in front when turning while backing up and on hard cornering in the rear.

Just a personal opinion here........both Zs look great however, if they sat just another inch to inch and a half lower they would look fantastic. The tire/wheels would then look appropriate in the wheel openings. Again, just my opinion. Take a look at my Z (listed under members rides) and you'll quickly understand where I'm coming from. By the way, the Panasports and the Rota wheels look so classic on the Z.

7277 and Jeffrey's Zs look awesome! But, I do agree with you on all counts! Maybe I will look into lowering it a bit. IMO to pull off the "complete look", it does need it. Now I guess I'll start looking into posts about lowering. I haven't investigated how to go about doing that. Sure, Panasports are popular in the Z world, and for good reason, they really do look great. As popular as they are, I will be one of very few cruising Dallas with them. Now I'm going to check out your ride. Thanks 240zx, 7277 and Jeffrey.

I think you will be in trouble with a -4 offset. A +4 to +6 offset works much better unless you go with narrow (205ish) tires. I rub the same as Jeffrey with zero offset and 225/50R16's. Even with the fenders rolled, it still rubs.

Now I think about it, they are +4. Thanks! I will probably prefit them before I buy.

hey tom, i agree....they (Z's in general) definitely look better lowered. however, i sold my light blue '77 in favor of keeping just my 240 (pic). i had enough of maintaining 2 Z's. my 240 is lowered with 5way tockico shocks and just about every other MSA performance part out there...:) the 240 has 15" Konig rewinds w/ 225/50's

Here is a quick pic of the Scarab. She is a 1971 with Tokico springs and Illumina struts. Whees are Panasports from Motorsports with 225-50-16 Dunlops. They rub in the rear due to the rear end setting in the more "forward" position. Additionally the zero offset wheel was not correct for the cars with the rear wheels in the forward position. Motorsports and Panasport corrected this issue by making newer wheels with a +4 spacing to bring the wheel a bit more inboard. My solution to the problem was to lightly grind the inner fender lip down and then massage it gently with a hammer until it was clearanced for the tire. Works ok but could use a bit more. I didn't want to get carried away. No issues in the front what so ever.
