i have a complete 83-z i cant get it register in texas cause of the title. so i found a 78-280z chaise for 100bux with clean tx title. i know the engine/tranny/rear diff will fit. but will any thing else fit? like the sub frames/ or front cross-member etc.

also how hard would it be to wire in the fuel injection system or should i just find some old carbs?

There are no subframes in either car-they are both unibody cars.

As to the cross member, given enough time and money anything is possible, but I wouldn't try it.

The whole drivetrain and efi can be moved. Use a ZXT/S30 swap as a guide and you should have no issues.

Zhome has a couple of articles on the turbo swap, as does HybridZ...

If the 83 is a non turbo, all you'd have to do is make sure that the sensors from the 78 are transferred over to the 83 engine and plug everything into the existing 78 harness. There will be a cylinder head temperature sensor on the passenger side of the 83 engine that won't be used on the 78. You can either remove it and plug the hole or just leave it unplugged.

yup that part seems pretty easy now that i look at it its the other wires that are not on the main engine harness that will be a little harder. but it looks like the guide covers it pretty well.

It will definately be challenging but I don't see why it can't be done. In using the harness from the ZX, you'll likely have to add some items to the Z that it didn't have like the O2 sensor, etc. Hopefully the ZX EFI harness ties into the main electrical system in the same way or at least similar enough to the way it ties into the system on the Z. Keep us posted.
