hi guys. well i've just recieved my carbon fibre bumpers fron MSA through my dealer in u.k.

at first i thought they were scratches but on closer inspection it's the weave of the carbon fibre stretched on each corner of the front bumper.

the back bumper is great. no bad rep intended to MSA because they supply some great quality products. but i was a little dissapointed.

my agent is speaking to hear there thoughts. what do you think??

I wouldn't be happy. The carbon fibre products I have seen are very presentable - that looks defective.

Good luck getting it sorted out. I have had issues with MSA befor - it was as simple as a phone call and they reshipped the correct product at no cost to me (other than my time - two weeks).

UNless the ad made it obvious the parts would need to be painted, I would be upset-and they should be...the guy packing the box should have caught that, kept it in the building, and put it on the appropriate desk to have that issue corrected.

Not acceptable. Get an RMA # and send it back.

MSA is pretty good about returns. That said, I was not happy with the quality of the interior diamond vinyl kit I got from MSA, but decided not to send it back. Figure I'd just get another kit from their same vendor with the same problems. Went to the source and got the diamond pattern material and will cut & sew them myself.

thanks for the input guys.

speaking to probably one of the only owners of c/f bumpers here in u.k ,on my quality issue, he told me that carbon fibre products from MSA (he also has a c/f bonnet fitted as well) are a little so so.

anyway let's see what the outcome is on the situation. i'll keep you upto date when i get a response.

MSA shipped me a defective full dash cover for my 240. I called them and the rep told me to simply take some pictures of it and email them to him. When he saw the pictures, he told me they would send me another one right away. He also said I could keep the faulty one, as the cost to ship an obviously defective part in an oversized box was a waste of money. I hope you have the same experience.

That is clearly carbon fiber weave, not colored fiberglass. What you're seeing is the core material placed in the middle of the carbon fiber layers. This is used to absorb more epoxy and strengthen the part. This is a common practice. Apparently the carbon got stretched when it was laid, allowing the core to show through. Since you ordered it as an appearance part, I would recommend returning it.

For someone who has a cracked front bumper from their original 1971 240Z like we do, don't plan to replace or fix it, since we're selling it BUT am collecting expertise and information where I can for the new buyer. I was thinking they'd need to find an original bumper in a junk yard somewhere to replace, but perhaps your solutions would be better. We're in the U.S., but very interesting in this thread, and will listen further in case the Carbon Fiber alternatives also work for our U.S. '71 240Z. Thank you for posting this thread and teaching us stuff as well.
