mrardente Posted October 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2008 After having issues with fuel for awhile I have finally decided to take the fuel tank off and clean it. Whats the best way to do this to make sure I have done it right the first time. The gas tank is already off, I was going to hose it down to see how much I can get clean. Would I be better off taking it somewhere to have it professionally cleaned? Also the fuel pump is only 6 mo old. I have pumped alot of slug through it, would it still be good or should i just change it out while I'm thereAny help would be awesome
Mike B Posted October 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2008 This is a good thread that details the restoration of a gas tank using POR products. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19034&highlight=fuel+tank+restorationIf you do a search you'll probably find others as well.-Mike
sblake01 Posted October 18, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2008 If the fuel pump is still working it will be fine. Jjust make sure you clean the inlet screen before you reuse it.
bilede Posted October 21, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2008 I pulled mine and took it to a place called readistrip after hours of trying to clean the sludge out with solvents which did cut it but I spent $30 on solvents and was no where near clean yet. readistrip cost $85 and it was as clean as a new tank. took off paint, rust, sludge, everything down to clean bare metal. I am sure there are other chemical strippers around in different cities that do same thing but this is supposedly a "greenie" chemical for what its worth..
