Posted October 19, 200816 yr comment_263706 I took my 71 down to Lakeland, Fl. for the Lake Mirror Classic. While driving home on I-4, I hit a 'turnpike gator' in the left lane at about 80. (turnpike gator refers to those thrown tire treads from the semis) It took out my fiberglass BRE-style spook; cracked it up pretty badly, and completely wiped out my left side Hella driving/fog lamp. Some paint chipped off the lower valence, but no real body damage. I suppose it could have been worse, but it still put a damper on a good day. October 19, 200816 yr comment_263711 Turnpike gators are not just a Florida problem. They exist everywhere there's semis but maybe under different names. One of them did some light nibbling on the drivers side rear fenderwell of my wife's HHR. Sorry to hear that, Geroge. October 19, 200816 yr comment_263730 If I had remembered - - Chris and I could have planned a drive over to Lakeland in the BRE Z. It is close enough for a round trip on one tank of gas. A couple years ago a bunch of us got together at Baldwin Park..Why did they schedule both Baldwin Park and Lake Mirror on the same weekend? That is the real bummer.....FWIW,Carl B. October 19, 200816 yr Author comment_263742 The show was great. Over 500 cars, all arranged by type; not so much as by make. Sports cars, muscle-era cars, race cars, brass-era, etc. As usual, all the concours cars were around the lake, the rest of us were on the closed off streets of downtown Lakeland. Bobby Allison was the 'Grand Marshall' and was very personable when I got his autograph. The weather was excellent. Wolf-Z and the PrimaDonna Z were there. There was one other Z-32 showing. The Amphi-cars were cool as they went into the lake and cruised around for about a half hour. Hey, for $35 I got to show my car, free lunch, a neat display sign you can use at other shows, and a Mercedes-Benz golf-size umbrella. You also get to meet some real nice folks, even if they don't own a Z.
