Maybe you misunderstood me Carl ,I do believe Ebay is the way to go, as you rightly say it show cases to the world. We all should cross our collective fingers and hope a good price is accepted as it will be good for all us Z owners.

By the way over here there is an insurance company that caters for the classic car industry, Shannons insurance ,they frequently advertise cars and hold auctions ,worth a look .

Mike B and all,

You're absolutely right, this car is completely overpriced and not worth the money. Please, please, please don't hit buy it now.......so I can!

Where do I start? First, I'm considering buying this car, so please do me a favor and buy it now so I can quit worrying about it!

Second, the last several VZ's went between $35K to $41K. So, this one is not going to go for $25K!

The previous post that refers to my former car, indicates that it didn't hit the reserve. That's accurate, but as Carl noted it did generate a lot of off-line interest and I sold it shortly thereafter to a person who saw it on ebay for considerably more than the reserve. The buyer got a fair deal, because the next two sold for more.

The next one was on ebay for one day and the seller got cold feet, then did the same thing a couple of weeks later and then sold it offline.

Lastly, I've seen this car personally and it's worth every penny that the seller is asking.

VZ ownership is getting harder and harder because as Carl also noted, collectors are buying them up and hoarding them.

If anyone wants to buy a 2006 Porsche 911, it would sure help me make my decision easier. Any takers?

I'd also sell my 1970 Z, but the Porsche has to go first.

So, go figure. How many people do you know that would sell a Porsche and a 1970 Z to own a VZ? Yeah, it's worth it!:D

Bob

Bob,

Thanks for correcting me on the price range on your car. I should track the cars that come up on ebay better. I assumed that since it didn't meet the reserve that it was sold for less, but apparently that was wrong. The two VZ cars that I was thinking of that sold on ebay in the last couple of years were a blue one sold by Courtesy Nissan in 2005 and a white one sold by an owner of a VW dealership last year. The blue one sold with a Buy-it-now of $20k http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17719&highlight=blue+courtesy (I almost bought that one myself, but waited a little too long to decide)

Apparently the white one I was thinking of the starting bid of $26k, but the reserve was at $32K. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=217393&postcount=59.

Here is another comment from Chris last year regarding VZ pricing

I saw that you mentioned you were interested in this yellow one when you sold your red one recently. Is that just because you like the color better or is this one a better quality restoration?

-Mike

Mike,

I always wanted a lemon-lime Z. I know the owner well and I tried to trade him my red one for his lemon/lime in the past. He wanted my red one, but didn't want to trade and offered to buy mine, but I didn't want to sell then. Yes, I know it's a sad, but true story.

Then, I tried to buy his, but he wanted to keep the lemon-lime one because it was so nice. So, in the meantime I bought a Porsche. What was I thinking?

If I hadn't bought that car, the lemon-lime Z would be headed for my garage right now!

I'm still thinking about it, but I don't need 6 cars and in this economy I think the market for Porsches is pretty dismal (even in So. Cal!).

Carl, I don't think I have ever seen a VZ sell on ebay for more than $30K, but I could be wrong. If I recall correctely, over the last couple of years before that they were listing/selling around the $25k mark. The one discussed in this thread a few months ago was listed at $30k, but I think wound up selling for a little less. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30568&highlight=nissan+program

Is the car for sale now in that much better condition, or has the market for them gone up another $10K in the last couple of months?

-Mike

Hi Mike:

I'm not sure what Bob's VZ sold for... but two that changed hands recently via private sales, were well over $35K and one was over $40K... As these cars settle into private collections - it will be harder and harder to find one for sale - and when they do become available, they will more than likely find a willing buyer waiting... Wishing he'd bought it sooner rather than later..

At the same time - I think we all realize that with NOS parts, or period correct parts constantly going up in price, not to mention getting harder and harder to find - there will be fewer and fewer 240-Z's of any year that get properly restored.

I could recommend this VZ at $39,500.00 to anyone that loves 240-Z's, and feel like I did them a favor if I talked them into buying it. Nissan did a great job on these cars and at least one has some idea of the extent and quality of the work done.

FWIW,

Carl B.

Carl,

Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! Must not click on the Buy it now button...must not click on the the Buy it Now Button...Must not......

ARRRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!

Bob

Go ahead Bob... everything else will work out.... You can store it at the Datsun Heritage Museum for a while if need be...LOL

FWIW,

Carl B.

There was another program car sold on Ebay in August. White with blue interior, in Texas. HLS300304. It seems to have sold for around 20K if I remember right. I guess someone got a bargain?

I think the car you are referring to was discussed in this thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31299&highlight=nissan+program. This was not a car from the Nissan Vintage Z program.
