go z racer, go

Recommended Posts

If you had unlimited resources to build...no, create your ideal Z for spirited street legal use, what would you have? That is to say, where would you start? Although I believe most of us take great pride in Z ownership (as evident here on this website) ultimately our customizing decision and approach are compromised by reality needs (food, rent, girlfriends, family, Back Street Boys CDs).

So, let's just pretend we won our respective state lotto and set up a booty camp on Malibu. You just kicked Brittany out for suggesting you sell "that old Z car" so you have the time and motivation. Would you go NA or turbo, maybe V8? Would seek pure, raw horse power, or strike a balance with suspension? Once you had your ideal power and handling package what color scheme would you pick? Maybe choose the "sleeper-stealth" route, ignoring the dents and bondo to prey on unsuspecting Ricer's?

In the end, what would your Z's resume (spec list) look like?

If I did win the lotto.... Hmmmm, the possibilities are really endless and all in all I would probably have three or four early Zed's, not to mention a new 350Z.

However, if I had to keep it to one Zed, then it would be an early 240 with a neat, but not over the top, front air dam and small rear spoiler. Sparkling chrome and a mostly stock interior (maybe some killer seats and harnesses, no real nead to go for a cage etc as I'd have dedicated V8 race car in the garage and this is a daily driver after all ROFL )

As for the engine and drive line, I'd put the AWD drive system and RB26DETT from a Skyline underneath.... Unfortunatly no one will ever make a AWD Zed as the cost would be phenominal.

That's what I'd do anyway. If it was a small lottery win then I think I would just put a VG30DETT in and stiffen all the suspension with stock body work... Nothing more. Nothing Less.

Ross.

hi all,

if i had to build one zed to a no comprimise package, then i would do exactly what i'm doing now, my rb26dett 240z!!!

but i would get a sequential transmission and a few more set of wheels (nice magnesium ones!) and make it 4Wd as well.

yes, a 4wd zed has been done already (in japan of course) i had pics of the car in my photo gallery a while back if anyone remembers

I would have two Zed's, they would both look identical from the outside (twins). One would be completely stock. The other would be a V8 monster, well balanced, roll cage, NOS, etc.. The fun would be having people wonder, "which one is he driving today"?

I'd take my Z into a shop and tell them to give it back when it was exactly like new. I'd keep the stock 2.4L engine, and only make minor adjustments (exaust, maybe electronic ignition, rear sway bar), and I'd keep it looking stock (other than the wheels and tires).

I completely restored to factory specs 240 sould be great.

I'm with Cuong Nguyen and DOCH on the RB26DETT. The hp range this engine can supply will meet anyone's needs on road or track (280hp - 1350hp) and the engine weight won't be that different to the original.

Failing that I would go to an RB25DET which too could supply enouth hp for anybody's road use needs.

In a 240z = lighter

AWD would be cool, failing that a strong LSD of some sort would do.

Lowered, hardened suspension

Spend a few days at a race track and dyno working out the how much power is just right.

as for body work, well, I'm sure someone will be displeased about this but:

Your right Ivan I am displeased mainly because of the following 2 reasons.

1. I personally think the Z looks better.

2. Because you shouldn't molest a original Z car.

on the other hand I don't see why not if you really like the GTO and since there were such a limited number made it's the only way you could come close to owning one. Not to mention the cost of one of these things.

But that's just me I like my original 240z with a gnose.

I completely ignored the original post.

Ok so here's what I'd have:-

240z (got one but if I was gonna get another I'd get a 70')

with the vents in the hatch.

Gnose - A must :classic:

Still deciding on ZG flares but most likely will put the ZG mirrors on the fenders depending on the road laws here in AUS.

16 , 17 , 18" rims not sure yet what will be the best.

Depends on horsepower and braking ability.

L28 Turbo F54 BLock P90 head. T4 Turbo Hardened internals etc... going for around 300 - 400HP.

Body work perfect no dings, bondo etc.. Must be brilliant Ferrari Red or maybe the new Holden HSV red used on some of the new Monaro's.

Chrome everywhere almost. The metal must shine like those old mustangs you see on TV.

A couple of racing seats, Most likely black interior. Thinking of white guage faces.

Not sure on rear wing choice maybe the little Bre wing.

Dual exhausts out rear(works rally car lookalike).

For now that's my dream list....................

Hard question...ok, heres trying...

If I won that much money I'd have 3 classics...

1. 240z in sky blue with race seats, race harnesses and full roll cage with a red GT stripe flanked by 2 smaller white stripes, the # 23 on the bonnet and doors, 15" minilite rims powder coated white with polished deep dish inserts, full koni adjustable coil overs, front and rear strut braces, stiffer front and rear swaybars, full nolathane job...ok, now the engine: fuel injection L24 bored out 40thou, balanced and blueprinted, shotpenned crank, forged pistons and rods, deburred block, 272/270 cam (read:lumpy!), stiffer valve springs with 3 angle valve set, decompressed to 8:1 with a T76-33D ball bearing garrett hanging onto the 3 1/2" exhaust making in the vicinity of 800hp (and a ****eload of torque!!!)

2. 260z 2+2, jet black, deep dish WELD 17" billet wheels with DUMPED suspension, chrome anything that can be chromed, full black leather interior retrim, purple neons underneath the car, fuel injected L26 balanced and blueprinted, lumpier cam (but still quite docile) with a nice little stereo.

3. 260z, maranello red, lowered 2" with simmons F15 rims, stock engine (just fully balanced and blueprinted), with everything else bought back to better than new condition.

So there!

Oh yeah, and a spare 350z in the garage for going to fetch the milk.
