Posted November 8, 200816 yr comment_265825 are there any downsides to having one?I'm getting close to parting out or scrapping my white 73 (a sad day) and it has a good one on it but I'm not sure if it is something I need on my 'new' 73. Is it a benifit in non-racing applications?-Trevorwww.geocities.com/z-car Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29920-engine-oil-cooler/ Share on other sites
November 8, 200816 yr comment_265830 Engine oil coolers were available from Datsun in the sports options and competition catalog. 21300-E4100. They require a special fitting for the hoses at the oil filter. BRE also offered an oil cooler 1162050 with their own version of the fitting. You may have either one and it is worth selling, not throwing away. Although not the same benefit as in a racing application, an oil cooler is nice to have. November 8, 200816 yr Author comment_265833 it is basically this one:http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PCLC03B/17-8052the downside for me is that it adds more hoses to the engine bay, I like the clean look. And although I doubt it would, it seems to add more places for a massive oil leak to happen. The Z doesn't come out for the hot parts of the summer (I'm too much of a wuss to go without A/C) but it does get some half hour long freeway time at 70-80 mph. November 9, 200816 yr comment_265900 I put an oil cooler in my previous car, a 1960 MGA. It always ran warm and the oil cooler did make a difference, but the cooling system on that car was under-sized for "slow-n-go" driving in hot weather. Based on my previous 240Z experience, The Z's cooling system, (in good condition), is adequately sized to meet the task.
