Refurbished engines

Hi all.

Since its been almost impossible to get an engine for my 240Z in the classified adds:disappoin, browsing the net I found zcarsource of Arizona and I would like to know if anyone have experience with them. I read they sell refurbished engines as long blocks.

They are around 2,500 to 3,000 bucks for them so I like to know if worth to buy an engine from them.

Exactly what engine do you want? L24 or L28? Do you need a complete rebuilt engine, including the head and all accessories - or just a new long block, or short block? Or are you looking for a good used engine?

Do you know how you are going to have it shipped, and what the shipping costs would be from AZ - vs -from Florida for example?

Provide lots more specific information - and you might get a good response.

To be honest I bought some parts like Fidanza Flyweel, centerforce dual friction clutch for a 4 speed tranny, headers (sent the wrong one with round ports), iginition system, timming kit, have the manifolds for SU´s(N33) but the carbs.

I got them since I was planning to rebuilt my L24 but things have turn different since the cylinder head was bad I dont trust the machine shops here.

I still have the block and components, rods, crank, etc.

I think is better to get a good used engine with all accesories (later I can rebuilt the L24 engine).

If I can get a good running setup why not. And if can get one in Florida would be better.

The thing is that I have at least one year looking for an engine with no luck.

If you can help me out with this, I really appreciate that.

Dare I say it too occasionally old running engines appear on the evil "ebay" check the seller with people here and have someone have a look at it. I agree with gotswap there are occasional engines popping up on craigslist in various states short/long block, heads etc.

I am surprised after a year of searching you have not found anything. There are many places that provide engines. Sounds like you are looking for a L24 but do you know what head, oil pump (high / low flow), etc. If you are wanting to spend that kind of money you should determine exactly what it is that you want. Search through the forums on this site and read more into the specifics of the different blocks and heads. Also I found the Datsun Z garage (http://www.datsunzgarage.com/) to have a great write up on rebuilding and all the different engine types.

Once you know what you are looking for there are many places to get engines and you can go from there to get what you want and way up the cost (including shipping) to see the best money for value.

That is too funny. There is a garage near me with a complete running engine he can't wring a hundred dollar bill out of. You'd think with everyone going 2.8, that 2.4s would be a dime a dozen.

Bruce, what head, block, oil pump, intake, cabs, condition, has it previously been machined? I am looking to get Rebello Racing to rebuild a 240z in the near future and that sounds like a good deal. PM me with more info if you can.

I have no way of knowing the status of what he has. Consider it a $100 core. I doubt he'll ship it either.

We have found a good machine shop near Salem that speaks L series fluently.

Funny - I get

$2130.00 + 240.00 core charge + $15.00 skid charge = $2385.00. Still not a bad price by todays standards for a remanufactured engine, with a 3 year, 100K mile warranty..
