Posted November 13, 200816 yr comment_266345 I just finnally looked under my 70 240(sitting in garage for a year) My floor pans are in pretty good cond. I have a small hole on the pass. side directly above the seat mount. It carrys through the floor pan and to the frame rail. The frame rail is rusted out basically about 6-8 inches from where it ties into the pan and stops. Can I do the POR-15,floor pan restor kit from motorsport or should I get a new rail? I want to do it right but not go overboard!AndyWoodland Ca Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29972-por-15-on-the-end-of-frame-rail/ Share on other sites
November 13, 200816 yr comment_266349 If you want do do it right, then you will replace all of the rusty metal that is too far gone to be of any use as a structural support. Weld in new metal in its place, then POR-15 over that and you will be set for a very long time. November 14, 200816 yr comment_266361 Yep I agree. I was in the same position as you. I ended up getting new rails from zedd findings and replacing both rails. When it comes to structural, you want to do it right. After I got new rails (and floors) I POR-15 coated them then used rocker guard over that.Check my gallery for images. November 14, 200816 yr comment_266379 and how easy were they to install?I cannot help on the rail but I did replace the floor pan with Zedd Finding's floor. The floor pan was not that difficult to install . I cut out the rusted metal with my saws all. Do NOT cut the floor untill you have the replacement in hand. this way you will know how much you can remove. The replacement must be fitted in place . As good as the floor pan is it still need some tweaking. I used self taping sheet metal screws to hold it in place as I fitted it. I ended up with one screw about every 5 ''. The floor then must be welded in . I took my Z to a certified welder and he removed each screw as he went around the floor and filled the holes. When I brought the car home I prepped all bare metal and painted all with POR-15 inside and under the car. Rocker would be a bigger problem in that you are removing a major part of the structure of the Z. It could alter the alignment of the car. Someone that has done one of these could advise here. November 14, 200816 yr comment_266387 I can't say as to how hard it was...I paid someone to do it because I can't weld. I can tell you that when he was done the frame rails were good and straight but the floorpans and rockers were offset by a few mm causing a slight gap under one door, and not enough under another door. Its all fixed now, but I should have shopped around for a better shop at the time instead of the first place to take me.Zak Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/29972-por-15-on-the-end-of-frame-rail/#findComment-266387 Share on other sites
