mally002 Posted November 19, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2008 I decided when I bought 797 that I would be restoring her back to original condition, today the entire car including all jambs and engine bay was soda blasted........and the fears of the "Rust Monster" were not to be. The entire car is very solid save the small area that was cut out, it was only just begining to rust so it was removed, had we not blasted it I'm sure it would have made it's way to the interior of the car. Engine, glass, hatch, fenders, hood, etc all come off later this week and hopefully will be ready for primer in a week or so. Here's a picture, of course I forgot my camera so I had to use my cell phone. The shop however is documenting the entire process on digital. I'll post some more pictures when I get back over there. Randy PS......That Soda blasting is amazing
Mike B Posted November 20, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2008 Why not strip the car to the bare shell before blasting it? Are you going to blast it again after you get the engine, glass, etc out? I had a parts car that someone had soda blasted with the interior in it and it was a mess. That soda gets in every nook and cranny.I'll be following your restoration and hope to see some of the original early items that came with #797. Good luck with it.-Mike

Travel'n Man Posted November 20, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 20, 2008 Randy,I am finishing up from a restoration as well. Keep us tuned in with pictures. I'm just a few hours away from you. The company I work for just built a new distribution facility in Knoxville this year. We'll employee about 500 people with about 500,000 sq ft of warehouse. There is a good Z Car source for parts in the Knoxville area with tons of parts for sale - Z Barn. Just be sure to double check all your parts. I purchased a front overrider and took it to Elizabethton - TriCounty Plating. They did a great job on the chrome work but once I got it back home (6 weeks later) I found out it did not fit my front bumper.......so always double check. I guess I will ebay it out.Good luck with your project.
mally002 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted November 20, 2008 The Z barn is great......(if I can catch Roger that is).... He has been a great resource.Mike, yes once everything is out it will be blasted again. We wanted to see if there were any major issues hiding. I wasnt concerned with the soda going everywhere as the interior will be removed and the inside restored. (Thats the part I really enjoy).More pictures soon.
