Posted November 20, 200816 yr comment_266886 I am looking for an early 4 speed tranny for my 71 240Z. I would like to have one as a spare for future plans that are in the works. Does anybody happen to know where I can pick one up? the local pick a parts are pretty bare. November 20, 200816 yr comment_266899 Stephen, I have a spare Type A. I ran it in my car for a few hundred miles while I rebuilt the original, so it's a known good unit. I had figured on keeping it as spare parts, but might consider selling it if the right offer was made. Don't know what it would cost to ship it, though. November 20, 200816 yr Author comment_266903 It would probably cost about 100 bucks to ship it. they weigh on the order of 140 lbs. If you do not mind Arne, think about what would make you happy, and we can talk to see if we can come to an agreement. Shipping would be a huge hastle for you, and I understand if you would rather not. But PM me when you have given it some thought. As usual, thanks for your time and consideration.Stephen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30031-need-early-a-type-4-speed-tranny/#findComment-266903 Share on other sites
November 20, 200816 yr comment_266910 It cost me 108 bucks to ship a 833 4-spd out of a Dodge truck from SC to TX via UPS, which I think weighs a bit more than a 240 4-spd. Just to give you a ballpark on what it might cost to ship, I think OR to TX is a little farther. November 21, 200816 yr comment_266974 The Type A transmissions were only used in '70 and '71 Zs. From '72 on they were Type Bs, both 4 and 5 speeds. November 21, 200816 yr comment_267012 I don't think the trans weighs 140lbs, as I have easily moved them around during my resto...maybe 75lbs or so. Honestly they feel like they weigh less than the differential does. Hope the shipping isn't too much!
