November 21, 200816 yr comment_267004 Three colors seems to work well IE: Solid body color (probably work with most) + black + chrome. I wonder if the different color wheels would look odd - as you said charcoal instead of black? I sent off a query this morning about carbon fibre spoilers made up here (Canada) - I'm not sure how I feel about them for the price - I would need to know that they were presentable befor I could even think about it seriously. There was a thread about it recently in which one of our members bought a unit from MSA (IIRC) and it would have had to be painted - If it needed to be painted I would just as soon go with glass. I always liked red, but can't spend $5+K to get there. Jeff - my question is answered - looks fine Edited November 21, 200816 yr by Sailor Bob Just noticed Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30039-flat-black-hood/?&page=2#findComment-267004 Share on other sites
November 21, 200816 yr comment_267010 Just ask Ron (Geezer). He knows that the pictures hide many of the flaws in my car. It's a really clean car, but it looks much worse in person. Some day, if I ever have any money, I will have it painted. Jeff, I think because your car is so clean, people tend to look past the flaws and aren't as critical of them as you are. The black hood is not only an exceptable look to me but likeable as well and if you didn't say different, I would have thought it was black by choice and not just because you haven't had the car painted yet. November 25, 200816 yr Author comment_267338 The reason I brought this up, is I have a white 73Z, and I saw a die cast model of a white Z with a black hood, I thought it looked pretty cool. There are lots of late 60's muscle cars also with flat black hoods. November 25, 200816 yr comment_267355 ...A big point that I didn't note in that original post was that the Works rally cars in particular had flat / satin black-painted bonnets ( hoods ) and wing ( fender ) tops to prevent reflected light from blinding the driver and navigator......Some WWII fighter aircraft (the P51 Mustang for instance) had the "hood" area as it were directly ahead of the cockpit painted flat black for that reason. It was particularly true on the planes that were painted bright silver.I always assumed that some of the mystique for black painted hoods was to emulate the fighter plane look. But if there was actually a reason as stated above, then that is even better.
