November 27, 200816 yr comment_267521 Where in AZ are you? Tucson has a great little Z-car club, I gotta assume there is one in Phoenix too. http://www.tucsonzclub.com/ I've found the local club to be a GREAT help with my car. Going to the meetings, tech times, and rides lets you see what folks have done to their cars, and will lead you to local shops that know Z-cars. Plus it gets you a 10% discount on parts at the local Nissan dealership Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30086-where-should-i-start-with-my-car/?&page=3#findComment-267521 Share on other sites
November 28, 200816 yr comment_267575 I have been having my own 260z restored for over 2 years and I agree with alot of the member's. It is a large $ project to go ground up.I have almost $30.000 invested and I had no rust. November 28, 200816 yr comment_267605 That's what happens when you have too much money and not enough time. I'm doing a ground up rebuild (suspension rebuild w/ full Urethane kit, wheels and tires, body rust removal and paint, full lighting upgrades, full stereo/media system instal, electrical upgrades like power windows-locks-hatch pop-hidden door switchs, carpet, full weatherstripping kit, etc, etc......And I don't plan on spending any more than $7 or $8 grand. It helps that I know almost every aspect of the build and am totally capable of doing 95% of the work myself. All this and I hope to keep with the 6 month plan and have her on the road by April'ish...Dave.You can keep up with my progress by clicking the 74' 260Z link in my Signature. November 28, 200816 yr comment_267607 I am in year 4 (hell could be 5) of the rebuild on my 240z. I have to admit that as time goes by, motivation becomes an issue. Things in your life change and priorties can shunt projects like these aside.I have done sod all on my car since it came back from the panel shop just over 12 months ago. What makes it worse is that I have completed all the suspension bebuild, engine, box. But sometimes you just need a break from these types of projects. So the advice I give in addition to the above is take digital photos of everything prior to disassembly (from many angles in as high a resolution as possible) then bag and tag everything. Keep a set of parts in a box and rebuild/freshen the contents then close it back up and store it for when it needs to go back on. That way you end up with lots of small acheiveable tasks instead of one huge task that could test your resolve.
