Posted September 12, 200222 yr comment_15607 Ok as i was gettin ready to take off my old side draft air filter system i noticed i go these hoses that go to my carb the the filter, i planned on putting on these new K&N filters i got, what do i do about these hoses??? and also i got one pretty decent size of hose goign from the valve cover to the air cleaner, my dad says i can just plug that temporairly till i get the air filter for that? he says i got good compression so i will be fine..i didn't have much clue on what he was sayin so what do i do with the big hose for now???pluggin it alright for temporary?? and the two hoses going to the carbs, i think it's the float bowl..what do i do with them?? thanks i am doing this today kind of well tryin to so can u help as quick as possible thanks again guys and gals Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3009-help-needed-as-soon-as-possibleplease/ Share on other sites
September 13, 200222 yr comment_15612 Okay Newbe, Heres what they do...The two small diameter hoses coming from the float bowls are to route any possible overflow of gas into the aircleaner housing where there would be less of a chance of causing a fire than if they just dumped out over the hot exhaust manifold. You could let them just vent to atmosphere and hope the float never fails, or figure a clean way to install into the back of the KN housing. The large hose from the top of the rocker is the basically the vent line that runs to the air cleaner and allows blow by gases to be reburned through the intake. Just blocking off will raise pressure in the engine and promote oil leaks. You should vent it in some manner but could be blocked for short time if needed. You might just leave the hose attached and routed near one of the air cleaners until you get something else rigged. September 13, 200222 yr Author comment_15625 Ok so i instralled the K&N filters, and i plugged the holes, all of them, but i am gonna take em off and find a temporary filter for the part with the blow by gasses and try and figure out a way to solve my other problem with the small lines...anyways, i took it out just to see how it would go and it was HORRIBLE started on three..i have a problem with that but usually it kicks in right aways this didn' for quite abit... then it stalled when i stopped so it won't run at an idle, i think the back carb is all fukt but i can't do it i want my dad to help me i got the manual and stuff so it can't be that hard to adjust it and there is tonnes of stuff on here abotu it, i am sure i can do it. it was also runnin really bad with everythign pluged so i will see what is different tomorrow morning. any ideas to help me alng please send them my ways thatnks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3009-help-needed-as-soon-as-possibleplease/#findComment-15625 Share on other sites
September 13, 200222 yr comment_15664 Newbe,You just can't plug the two small hoses as they are the atmosphere vent for the float bowl as well as the overflow and you need them open in some manner for the float bowl level to work out right. If the car was running ok prior to you making changes, go back to the way it was and just make one change at a time and you will find out what your problem is.Just changing the air filters shouldn't cause problems. It is most likely blocking off the hoses. The engineers had a reason for doing everything they did for the original design. September 13, 200222 yr comment_15666 If you plug the two small hoses that come out of the tops of the float bowls on your carb, your car will not run. It's a good idea to somehow route them into your new filters if possible. Venting them into the atmosphere is not the most environmentally friendly solution. Routing them into the air cleaner alllows the vented gas to be used by the engine, instead of floating away. It costs nothing in HP, and helps reduce polution. September 14, 200222 yr comment_15692 hi all,i think that if you block of the breather on the valve cover will promote oil leaks. the pressure that will be built up in the engine will blow gaskets etc.keep it vented, you are better of leaving it open that blocking it up at all, even if it has no filter on it!!
