Got what i hope to be a quick question...

A little history first. I have been slowly refreshing my 72 240, the car sat after being a daily driver for 15 years in the new mexico sun. I dropped the gas tank had it cleaned replaced all fuel lines from the rear forward new plugs wires, coil,filters and fluids. I wasn't getting sufficent fuel so I got a new fuel pump from msa. car still wouldnt start... Thought I needed to send in the carbs for a rebuild but i couldnt afford it so I got bummed. Anyway after more research I found the fuel lines under the SU's to be clogged. cleaned them out and POOF! the car ran.

It sounded like $^!# so after closer examination there was no fuel getting from what i think is a fuel regulator or something to that bottom hose hence to the rear carb. I tried carb cleaner to no avail. the cleaner will go from the vapor return line on top of that regulator out the bottom but not from where the fuel goes in out the bottom.

So after that long winded explanation... can i use a pipe cleaner on that mechanism or should i just try to keep soaking it in carb cleaner? or is there a better way to clean it out. I am completly unfamiliar with carbs... much less SU's, so any advice would help.

After re-reading this several times I think things are coming clearer. The fuel regulator (actually called the float bowl) has a needle and seat which screws into the underneath side of the lid. Remove and douch it out with carb cleaner. Old varnish is what you're chasing. Take it apart if you have to. Then remove and clean the mesh screen filter which is also in the lid and clean it out. Fuel should then be able to enter the float bowl.

Under pain of death, do not adjust float levels until well after you get the car running, if ever!! Bad things will befall you......

I opened up the float bowl cleaned it with carb cleaner and BAM it worked like a charm!! I look forward to working with you and Z Therapy in the future... thanks for the help on my order as well!
