lonetreesteve Posted December 6, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 6, 2008 I'm afraid it's going to take more than just one winter to complete this project(s)
JonnyRock Posted December 6, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 6, 2008 Still, it's definitely a restoration candidate for someone looking for a '69 Z.And since the parts to restore it aren't quite 'Unobtanium' yet, I think it's probably a good candidate. But then again, I'm fairly new to the Z scene, so what do I know? Mike B Posted December 6, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 6, 2008 I've seen that car list on ebay a couple of times. The seller never posts more than a couple of pictures and none that really show the car very well or any of the unique 1969 parts. He is also pretty vague about what the VIN is, and other details. He says it is a rebuilt engine, but doesn't mention if the engine is original, so I assume it is not. Based on the couple of pictures that he does show it looks VERY rough, and I assume the parts he doesn't show are worse. -Mike
JohnnyO Posted December 6, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted December 6, 2008 I sent the seller a few questions. Let's see how he responds.Do you have some better pictures? Maybe some good shots of the parts you have, the interior, the rust spots. It's hard to judge from 3 pictures. What are the block and body numbers?Do they match the plates on the drivers side door jamb and under the hood? How are the floor pans, battery tray, dog legs and hatch sill? What is the exact vin #?Thanks, John
Richard Oben Posted December 8, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 8, 2008 It looks like his plan was to do a VIN swap from one to the other, Not legal or ethical but that looked like the plan to me. I could be wrong and hope I am. It has been going on with Mustang/shelbys for years. JMO, Richard.
Mike B Posted December 23, 2008 Share #7 Posted December 23, 2008 I sent the seller a few questions. Let's see how he responds. Not sure if you ever got a response to your questions' date=' but the seller did eventually revise his ad with additional information, so I am copying it and pictures from the ad here for when the ebay link no longer works and this car appears again (and I'm sure it will). I'm not sure why he feels he needs to hide the VIN. [i']"This is a rare 69 240z with low 300 vin. It is in rough shape, but complete. The other car is more solid, but no interior, and it has a rebuilt engine and transmission, but no carbs. Both cars are restoration projects, I do not know the year of the black one, and there is no title for the black one, only the 69 240z. Again, both cars need work. I have had several questions about the vehicles, particularly the blue one. The blue one is more rough than the black one. The blue one needs floors, probably quarters, some sheet metal to rockers, all around restoration. The engine is original to the car, as is the transmission. The engine and transmission did run about a year or so ago, but I have not had it run since. The vin is in the low 300's. The other car has no title, but the body is much better. It is not complete, but the engine was rebuilt when I got the car. The black car comes with a rebuilt engine and transmission, it has good doors, fenders, trunk deck, hood needs some work. The auction is for both cars. I am looking at getting 3,000 for both If someone wants the rebuilt engine and transmission, no carburetors-available for 450.00 We can arrange transport as well. For the many that have asked, I will not reveal the vin, only to the person that buys. All the vin numbers are present, the clear title is in hand. The vin is lower than 350. The engine is original along with the transmission. It is a very rare car. For those that believe this is too high in price, remember there are not many 69's left. I realize that the economy is not the best, so if it does not sell, it goes into storage awaiting the time that the economy turns around. The price can only rise. That is my take on the situation, hopefully I am not wrong. Thank you to those that have looked at the ad, and realize the significance of owning this rare piece of history. thank you again" -Mike
hls30.com Posted December 23, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 23, 2008 Is it just me, or does it sound crazy to think someone will by a low vin without knowing what the vin is? This would be a case of "For those that truely want to sell. I won't reveal my bid until the vin is posted."Will
Mike B Posted December 23, 2008 Share #9 Posted December 23, 2008 Is it just me, or does it sound crazy to think someone will by a low vin without knowing what the vin is? This would be a case of "For those that truely want to sell. I won't reveal my bid until the vin is posted."WillAbout as crazy as expecting it to sell by showing three small pictures of exterior side views of the car. Maybe that has something to do with the high bid of $233.27. No way he will ever get close to the $3,000 he is looking for with ads like this.-Mike
Arne Posted December 23, 2008 Share #10 Posted December 23, 2008 Yeah, IF I were in the market for a low-VIN car, I'd send him a message that said I won't bid until I've seen more of the car, know the VIN, and see the VIN stamp on the firewall. Without that, no bid.
Zedyone_kenobi Posted December 23, 2008 Share #11 Posted December 23, 2008 I dont know fellahs, looks like snake oil. Low VIN does not mean much to me when its going to take 30,000 dollars to restore it at least. Money is better spent elsewhere if you ask me. JohnnyO Posted December 23, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted December 23, 2008 Not sure if you ever got a response to your questions, -MikeSorry all, I did get a response a few days after I asked. It was the same as above: "Looking to sell, not revealing the VIN, I'll get my price, This is a classic car, worth the investment...Blah, Blah, Blah."I'd approach this one as if I were walking up behind a horse.John
