I think Galaxybj is correct I also recently swapped out what I believe to be the original 2 row radiator (based on what the PO said) for a 3 row as she would get a little warm sitting in traffic and of course that led to vapour lock :(

I'm still running the original 2-row in my '71, but our climate is fairly mild. (Rarely over 95º F.) No issues. I had an aftermarket 3-row on the yellow car.

It's my understanding that aftermarket radiators are available in 2, 3 and 4 row versions, depending on the maker. Most (if not all) aftermarket radiators will have the transmission cooler and fittings for the automatics, that way they are universal fit. You just ignore the cooler fittings if you don't need them. All of the aftermarket radiators I've seen either lack the curved fan guard, or have a guard that is not curved but simply bent.

Thanks for the info. I am not looking for aftermarket and from what I can tell without calling the guy these are definitely aftermarket.

I am looking for a serviceable series 1 radiator if you know of anybody;)

Many years ago I had my original radiator re-cored at a local radiator shop. They added an extra row and I never had any cooling problems after that. That may be an option for anyone trying to keep the original look but get additional cooling. I don't know what a job like that would run today but I don't recall it being all that bad back then.

Is there any one thing that identifies a radiator as original? I am wondering if mine was just recored by the po vs. being replaced.

Thanks

Good question. Unfortunately I don't have a good answer for you. I assume that a good eye would be able to look at the top & or bottom tanks and tell if it was original or not, but someone else will have to comment on that. Going under that assumption, I took my original radiator to a local shop and had it re-cored with a three-row, tight-finned replacement (as recommended by the shop). The radiator man explained to me that there have been many advances in cooling technology since the early '70s, and that a good quality core of current technology should solve any cooling problems encountered with a '70s vintage original. What I like about that approach is that the top & bottom tanks are the original parts, and the 'new' one looks just like the original part. I have several original rads sitting around if you need one to get re-cored. (They might work as is, but I couldn't guarantee that....)

Just a couple years back I bought a new one from Nissan. It was set up for an automatic transmission line. They told me that it was all they stocked now. That way they only have one on the shelf...

Yeah would love to know if the one I took out was original or not anyone have pics with an original series 1 out of the car?

Yes John, Do you have any pictures of the one's you might have for sale?

I would definately get it recored.

John, I will have to dig them out.... It may be a while, but I'll get to it (dealing with some unfortunate circumstances here & Christmas is right around the corner). I;ll get some pix for you.

John
